Read the section that covers DIC Messages... "Convertible Top Messages"

If you can't lower it below freezing like the DIC messages page says I wonder why it says not to lower it at or below freezing on the operations page...makes you go hmmm.

You have to understand the whole system...
After the temperature of the motor warms above 32*F, the top will operate.
However, the warning not to lower the top in freezing weather is to prevent you from lowering the top onto a water management bag that might be filled with ice.

A friend of mine showed me what his wife's rear window looked like last December when she lowered her Camaro top on a rock-hard water bag.

Don't over-analyze the instructions...just follow them.

Don, there's a DIC Message on your dashboard to indicate that problem:

Yeah I saw that later, I went out and yeah there is a magnet only on the left side. I noticed on mine that sometimes the message would pop up about the cargo shade and sometimes it wouldn't. But the motor on mine never ran either way when it wasn't extended.

IIRC, on my 2011 2SS/RS Vert, if the cargo shade wasn't extended, the DIC would just display 'Top Not Secured'
Perhaps they changed the messages in later years to make better sense?

Not sure what my 2013 ZL1 Vert says in that situation.

That's the message I was getting too but if I pushed the button again the cargo shade message finally showed up.

I have had the shade come loose before, but until your post couldn't recall the message ... but yeah ... mine also gave the generic "Top Not Secured" message. One of the two times that this happened, it also locked me out of the trunk at the same time and I had to use the manual release. (If I recall correctly, the right side popped out, leaving the left side at an angle loose in the slot.)

What annoyed me was, when I woulf forget to extend the cargo shade, I'd be in the car, unlock the top, press the button to lower it, the message would appear, then I would remember 'Hey dummy. you forgot to pull the shade out again' so I'd get out of the car to open the trunk to extend it, but the trunk wouldn't open.
I had to get back into the car, close and lock the top, THEN get out of the car and open the dang trunk , extend the shade, get BACK into the car and finally lower the top.

Sheesh, why do they lock the trunk shut when lowering the top?

I noticed that too, but I was lazy and tried to open the trunk with the door trunk release button, as soon as I relatched the top the trunk popped open when I hit the door trunk release button again.
