I love your build! And I completely agree with you about working on your own car. I started working on mine shortly after i got it in June 2012, and I've learned so much and I'm loving every minute of it! Awesome job, keep up the great work!

Dyno Day!

Thanks for the complements.

So my i'm still waiting on a 10 rib belt to be custom built for me so i can try out my 3" pulley, but I couldn't wait any longer...so off to the dyno with my "street" pulley (3.5" @ 11#) after work today.

I got over my minimum goal of 700 by 4 hp. My 3rd and final pull I ended up at 704 rwhp @ 653# torque @ 5950 rpm @ 18 degrees of timing (9.9:1 compression).

This was on 93 octain and meth. I'm planning to add Shell URT at the track tomorrow for extra protection (more than 50/50), and then i'll back my street tune down a few degrees of timing for safety (so my street tune will settle around 675 rwhp).

I'm not sure why, but boost started falling off around 6000 rpm...no signs of belt slipage (although my current belt is a little longer than i would like it). Current theory is the car is pushing a lot more air through and the SC couldn't keep up .

Can't wait to see what that 3" can do...i'm hoping it holds the boost through atleast 6500 rpm.

The dyno chart shows last octobers pull with my best one today (the Oct was prior to motor rebuild, cam, heads & meth). Video as well, even though dyno videos aren't all that exciting.

They are Lorenzo WL 028 18x9.5" w/Micky Thompson ET Drag Radial 305/45R18. I got them from Mike @ BestWheelDeals (he is on Camaro5). That's also where i got my XO Miami 20x10" daily drivers.

ZL1 rear end

Well, i broke an axel (see top right) at the track yesterday (video coming). Every day is a fun day at the track, but my times were very dissapointing. I'll blame a lot of it on the driver . But my 60' times were terrible 1.9 & 2.0 and my 1/4 mile ETs were all around 11.7 . I'm going to blame it on belt slip that i think i discovered at the dyno and definitely my driving...trying to make the transition from dump the clutch to slip the clutch.

Anyway, i have the old drive train out (took about 3 hours, but i didn't have the right size socket to remove the trans flange)...hope to have the new in by next weekend...

ZL1 rear Install

Started my install tonight. Removing the trans flange was a PITA. I replaced 2 bushings on the ZL1 diff. I didn't see how the 3rd pushing would come out (not near as much clearance as on the SS). So i left it as is .

Diff is installed as well as passenger axel. I hope to finish up tomorrow between sons baseball, daughters play, and family dinner .

ZL1 rear/drive train install complete

I finished up my ZL1 drive train upgrade. At them moment everything feels pretty good. I am going to need a longer rubber hanger for the passenger side exhaust...if i use the current hanger, i have no clearance between the exhaust and the new diff. A few zip ties will hold it for a little while.

Now just waiting for my shorter belts to see if i can get the whipple to pull strong upto 7000 rpm...should be here this week, then i finally get to try out my 3" pulley!

Can't wait to get back to the dyno and track! I've got to get in the 10s...but i have a far ways to go!

That's a killer build! I bet with the 3.73 gears in the ZL1 diff will help your 60' time in the 1/4 mile, if u didn't already change them, didn't see it in the build. Only wish I could do mine that qwik!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to getting back to the track and improving my 60'. I was still running 3.45 prior to Sunday. My best 60' was a 1.8. In addition to the 3.73, i'm hoping to be +100 more hp . I just received my new 10-rib belts from whipple, so now i can run my 3" pulley! I'm hoping to see better than 800 rwhp...we'll know in a few weeks!

That will make a big difference (the smaller pulley) HP!, even with the 3.73's you should get good 60' times. A 4.10 or even a 4.30 gear would be best for quarter mile times especially 60' times, but will hurt it in some hi speed road courses and top speed runs and some street manners, but with a blower you got plenty of torque anyway!

My goal in gearing is to cross the 1/4 mile close to redline in 4th gear. unfortunately i think i'm still going to have too much room. I'll find out soon, but a 3.91 may suit me better. We'll see where I trap...I was hoping 135+, but i don't think i'm going to get there now...we'll see.

Happy Dyno Day

Made it to the Dyno today with my tuner (Bill). Now that i have my custom made belts from Whipple, I got to try out my 3" pulley for the first time. Very happy with the results 798 rwhp / 745 rwtq @ 15 psi @ 6400 rpm .

I think there is still more in her. Despite the 10 rib pulley, the belt was a little tacky when i switched back to my daily driver pulley (with a measly 724 whp )...so i'm suspecting belt slip (i was expecting 16-17psi...and only got 15). I hear Whipple has a heavy duty tensioner, so will follow-up w/Mike.

The good news is my ADM FPCM & ZL1 pump held up perfectly! Andy didn't think it would hold up to 800 hp, but as you can see in the log snapshot, at 6500 rpm, it was holding steady at 65 psi.

After a stronger tensioner, i think my next mod will be the super chiller...it was a crappy weather day to dyno, and my IATs were high...I think starting a pull/run around 50 degrees should be worth a little more power.

..

Poly Motor Mounts

So I've been expermenting w/motor mounts...the PFADTs have a little too much vibration for me when sitting at a stop light...sounds like most of my interior is going to rattle free. I had a little frankenstien going for a while w/1 stock and 1 PFADT...actually it wasn't that bad, still some rattle, but not sure it bought me anything either.

I just received the polyurethane motor mounts i bought from Nathan and installed them tonight. We'll see how she rides now in comparison...

Debottlenecking

So I touched base w/Mike at Whipple based on my 3.0” pulley results. It looks like my vmax ported TB is a constraint. So now I’m in the market for a 102mm TB. Looking around it looks like TPiS is the only reliable option.

Per a post from Ted J, I’m expecting 25 more hp and better IATs during a pull…

820 rwhp is sounding pretty good..., but it will have to wait...i'm planning to head to the track Saturday and see what i can do w/the power i have now. I hope to find the 10s, but i may need to figure out how to upgrade the driver before Saturday! (no i'm not letting anyone else drive my car)
