Your next mod NEEDS to be a catch can!

Caution, GRAPHIC NSFW PHOTOS!
This is on an engine with 48,000 miles, after a 9,000 mile rebuild. I'm not sure if the tech cleaned it during the rebuild. I run Mobil 1 synthetic, K&N filters, and my only real performance mod before this dis-assembly was my vararam.

Plenum off

Significant puddles of oil on both sides! NOT good!

Oil everywhere...

Throttle body plate had significant build up

Lots of oil on each runner...

Real glad I bought an entirely new manifold + catch can. You don't need to be a mechanic to see how bad this is. I can't imagine what 100,000 miles would look like!

Wow. And I wondered where all my oil was going. Just wow. Any specific brand of catch can better than the other for the LLT?

RX and Elite are the only ones you should get. I went with Elite as they offered Chrome at no extra cost and they were in stock and ready to ship from Apex. RX seems to have a lead time atm.

I've said it before and I will say it again. A catch can is the best investment you can make in your engine's long term well being. That is especially true for the V6 engines.

RX and Elite are definitely two of the better ones. RX is running a few weeks out at the moment and Elite it ready to go.

Damn, how many miles did you have on your car? When I did my ported manifold swap, I had 40,000 miles and mine looked almost perfectly clean. No catch can. The valves looked pretty clean too. No where near as bad as that

I drive it really hard. Mine's also a daily driver. Have tracked it more times than I can count. Don't know if temperature makes a difference but it never really gets cold here.

The system that comes on the 1LE is a "clean side" set up. It is not nearly as effective as the aftermarket systems that work on the "dirty side". The best solution would to be running both.

The typical single catch can installation is on the dirty side only. If you want to prevent the deposits on the throttle body, you need a can on the clean side as well, or disconnect the clean side line and run a breather.
