2014 SS 427

I fooled you didn't I?

Bare with me please...(or just skip to the BOLD BUT...)

I want to know everyone's thoughts on this now that photos of the 2014's are coming out and we all know about the Z/28

I followed the development of the 5th gen fairly closely. I remember the concept, as do we all, and the convertible concept. I was there in Indy 08, sat in a 320,000 mile mule car that was held together by duct tape. All I can remember is I didn't want to get out, but there was a line behind me so I kept my time all too brief(yes I was the one holding that line up).

Work kicked in, so did going back to school(after 30) and I didn't follow the Camaro so closely. I remember when they went into production, but I was too broke to buy one, and then the ZL1 and the Copo. Well I said I didn't really want all this plastic crap on the outside of the car, just go fast. So my buddy says they're making that, called the Copo. Little did he know, right.

So the ZL1 grew on me magically right about the time I got to where I could buy a Camaro, like fate, and I love it. I wouldn't give it up for anything, you'd have an easier time holding me down and pulling my teeth than getting me to trade my ZL1.

BUT....

How many of you would really just like a street brawler of a car, from the factory, with a warranty. Something, that if nothing else, would go to the 1/8 and 1/4 mile track and smoke any Ford.

What would that car be... Hmmmmmm....

Wide tires on the back, maybe not so much up front, 18" wheels at most, money could be saved by not putting so much of the expensive brakes and what not because we aren't going to wear them out with this car. It doesn't need a 1LE or ZL1 suspension.

Call it like it is, for me personally, I said STREET brawler, meaning I would drive it, so racing seats sure, but I still need my radio and AC, after all I live in Alabama and it's hot here. Plus with those systems that incorporate your AC into CAI or whatever, you know what I mean.

Engine? I'm gonna let you guys tell me. Has to be factory warrantyable, if that's a real word. How much power would it take, how light could this car be and still be a streetable, fun, daily driver.

How fast does it need to be? Needs to beat 11.6 seconds.

Guess what, everyone always says that Chevy won't put that much power in a Camaro because they won't want to step on the Corvette's toes, hurt their feelings, well I'm not talking about that, this car would be fun for crusing, seat four, go fast in a straight line, it's not gonna keep up with a Vette around the twisties, so leave that alone for this post please. Shoot the car I'm talking about wouldn't keep up with a ZL1 around the twisties, but would smoke it on a 1/4 mile track.

Like the old days, 6cyl, RS, Z/28, V8, SS350, SS396, SS396 again, all lined up next to each other, you could pick the 'maro for you

Chime in, Please

As much as I want to say "now guys, I put a lot of thought into this, so please take it seriously," nah, have fun with it.

I would love it if GM would offer the 427 as an engine option for the SS. A 1SS with a 427 would be sick and I think many would buy it. Nuff said. Why do I have to pay out the butt for a z/28 to get the 427.......

I think with a good set of tires and 530 at the wheels you could break 12.0 in the 1/4.......

I would be happier with a factory supercharged option, for the street.

Give me the option of a SS427 and back to the dealer I will go. I have often wondered why GM would not let us option the engine of choice for an upcharge ?

Oh GM ( Scott ) hear our dreams and let them come to life!!!!!

I kinda dont understand what a bunch of you guys are saying... they (chevy) have all what you want.
If its price thats the question then what most ppl say "You got to Pay to Play"
OP you have a ZL1 king of camaros what Im hearing is that you want a built car the way you like it... so why dont you bulid it then instead of waiting?
Chevy may have another engine option besides the 376 in the future maybe not but seems like the new LT1 will be in the camaro for mass production. A 427 or 454 will be for limited cars.

What a lot of ppl are asking I think is a lil greedy or selfish. Chevorlet cant please everyone. These are my opinions though. Kinda like me saying how come the SS didnt come supercharge?---zl1 or why isnt the SS more trackable---1le. ... in your case your asking for a street monster or "STREET brawler" with a warranty---BOOM z/28

hope I didnt come off anything besides sharing my opinion but I see and sometimes read a lot of these type of threads but I was awake 5am and a lil bored so i commented lol

I posted a question like this. MANY ppl would buy this without a blink or thought. There's only 1 small problem. CAFE. You'd have to make your other automobiles get much better gas mileage to compensate for the loss in avg mpgs throught the wntire fleet of autos. Is this possible? No doubt! Will they do it? Probably not.

Oh I'd love it! As much as I love my ABM I'd give it up for an SS427.

It's not really greedy or selfish. We just want the 427 engine option for the SS....we dont all need the z28. We just want the engine like the late 60s when you could option out a car....we're not asking for it to be cheap as the 376. We'll pay for the option to get the engine. I think it would be a great idea for gm to sell more cars.......there are a lot of us out there that would buy.

heavy ZL1's can do that with less rwhp.

Without a doubt, make AC and radio the only 2 options no power seats, just manual. No fancy anything. Just a 427 in the car. GM doesn't need to engineer anything as the SS can easily withstand the 500HP. Thing is, they won't do it. The SS sales with a reg. engine would definitely drop. They know that. Why not fork over $10000 more for an LS7 powered SS?

I heard GM is putting a 3 cylinder deisel in the Cruze. That should help even out the fleet mpg.

Really? Interesting! GM! Where's my factory warrantied SS 427 camaro at? Come on! Snap! Snap! This should've been done from the get go. I prefer the look of my car with an LS7 rather than the redesign but ill take it a 2014 or 2015 SS427. I'm patient enough to wait 2 yrs lol.

I'm just gonna throw this out there...

Everybody wants a "Street Brawler" that will "smoke any Ford", yet you want GM to custom build it and warranty your activities? 99% of the folks that had such cars in the good ole days shoe-horned their own big block into a Camaro, and the other 1% paid big bucks (for the times) to get theirs and rarely got a warranty. You're asking GM to assume the risk for what you want to do with this car. Asking GM to invest millions into research to produce another reliable, safe, purpose-built, high performance street car that will only sell a few hundred units, will not only jack up the price of that car, but the rest of the line up as well. You say a lot of people would buy it, but it would still be priced out of reach for most of the folks that really want it. In the automobile world, less is more and more is more.

Less weight = more cost. More power = more cost + weight.

You want a lightened 1SS with a 427? Build it! It would be an amazing car, and something you'd be much more proud to own. Everything you need is already available off-the-shelf. Standing behind your own product goes a lot further than running to the Service Dept.

I'm not trying to disrespect anyone here. I've built 2 street rods, and several sand rails back when I had time and money (read: unmarried and no kids). I would have any one of those vehicles again over anything I could drive off the lot at the time. Would I like to see more purpose built Camaros? Yes, but I don't think they will come off the assembly line. Given the economy and the current corporate environment, I'm amazed GM (and the other two) are able to get these cars to the street at all! Now is a great time to be a gearhead! Take advantage of it!

Wait a minute, GM would risk absolutely NOTHING in making this. How do you figure that? They warrantied the Z/28 and its PURPOSE BUILT! No one here wants a purpose built SS427, They just want the SS to have a 427 in it. Though I do understand the OP was specifying a Ford burner getting 11.5 in the qrtr which to my knowledge requires a roll cage? Not sure but I think so unless its 11.4 that is does. I forget. I as well as others would enjoy owning an SS427 that is not purpose built. Just an optioned car. The "purpose" would be whatever the hell you want to do with it from there. Doesnt have to have purpose behind it. And if you put a 427 in an SS, the price would be around $45-48k. Everything else stays the same in the car. No suspension upgrades or anything more as an SS is VERY well capable of handling a 427.

This gen will be it for High performance other than the LT1 being in SS models though that wont last very long without FI bein introduced to get the same numbers we're getting NA.

SLP offers one as an add in for a new car. ZL700 comes with the handbuilt 427.

http://slpcars.com/?page_id=1490

Comes with a Powertrain warranty that matches GM.

Which refers back to original question. WHY DOESNT GM OFFER THIS?
SLP runs approximately $10000 over MSRP for this for a base package with includes wheels and such. GM CAN offer this in an SS as an option for around $8000 over MSRP and make a profit. If SLP does it for this cost, and they dont do this for free, GM can do this as well.

I agree. the 2014 Z28 is a terrible idea. Overpriced, super niche market. Just make a beastmode 1SS with this engine option for a reasonable price and there you have it.

They would sell a ton.

The ONLY thing I can think of is, that since the LS7 is gonna be retired just like the C6 vette, they only had a certain amount of engines on hand, and didnt want to make anymore.

So they jack up the price and essentially make it a limited edition.
