no source. Both MotorTrend and Car and Driver have articles on the Z/28 in the June mags. Car and Driver has some rather blah performance numbers they are estimating for the car. Top end in low 170's and 0-60 @ 4.2 seconds. Not sure where they are getting these numbers. They say they are estimates but quote Stielow in the article.

In the March 2013 article of Motor Trend, they guesstimated the C7 base price at $59,000... we now know they over-estimated by $8,000 (sans dest fee). So if MT's crystal ball prediction & formula applies maybe, just maybe... the Z/28 can base sticker at $55K?? But even if they were 50% over, or 4K over, so... how about 59K?? All speculation but we'll see how accurate MT is when GM eventually reveals the Z/28 actual msrp digits!

If the 170 mph top speed is correct, and I hope against hope that it is correct, then the enthusiasts have the final and ultimate proof that this is a no compromise track car.

Trackrats understand with crystal clarity. Top speed numbers are utterly meaningless except to magazine induced mental masturbators. Just like 1/4 mile and 0-60 times. Useless information for use on track.

Give me a close ratio gearbox that allows the engine to pull like a locomotive in every single gear, and that allows me to be in the right gear for every corner, that is what I want. Not a top-speed numerical compromise meant to appeal to the unthinking sheep.

170 mph top speed: Please, please let it be true...

Ok...I'll play the straight man here....lol...You hope it's true, it's proof it's a great track car....But yet, Top Speed is meaningless.....The top speed is appealing only to unthinking sheep, yet it's proof of a great track car and you hope it's true....ok....whatever....lol....

Huh?

What he says makes perfect sense for a road course car....

200 MPH means nothing if the longest straight only lets you get to 170.

ok...lol...just struck me as odd that what was called meaningless is hoped to be true...sure it may never go that fast as tracked, but it's should be good news on the top speed, not meaningless, yet proof of something hoped for...???....Sounded a little confusing was all...

It's as much gearing as it is power when going for top speed. I'll take the car with the proper usable gearing over top speed ANY day!

Think gearing.

Hint: what's the Vette's top speed?

True.... But given the nature of the Z/28 I can see it not having a real high top speed.

I totally get the gearing taking mph off the top but if these #'s are accurate I don't quite understand the 0-60 time @ 4.2. It just seems to me that if I throw a 3:91 gear in the car, take 300 pounds off her, and have the hp/torque #'s we have been told that it should be sub 4. I know you don't time a road course car from a dead stop so I get it is irrelevant for the purpose of the car but I just find that a bit odd. I am not slamming the car, especially since this is all speculation it just seems to not add up to me.

500hp and 317 lb-ft crank hp/tq will break traction of 325/30-19" Trofeos while rolling in 1st gear at 10-15mph on a 911. Therefore it makes perfect sense to me that a car with smaller tires, front weight bias, and ~183 more lb-ft tq simply can't put down the power through 305's for a shocking 0-60 time.

And...if it has the close ratio gearbox, it likely needs a shift before 60 mph which will make the 0-60 time longer.

We have no idea if this speculated information is correct, and if it is, I just don't care. It doesn't matter for those of us who will use the car for its intended purpose.

Why don't you invest in a driving school? The Spring Mountain Ron Fellows/Corvette school would be great?

Here you go: http://www.springmountainmotorsports...riving-schools

The skills learned will last a lifetime and you don't have to feel left out of the conversation on here.

Hopefully this will help put to rest the guesses that the Z/28 will cost less than the ZL1 that I see in almost every other thread.

According to GM/Media specifications, the gearbox ratios for the 2014 Z-28 and the 2013 1LE are identical, apparently they are going to use the same TR6060. Also, the first four gear ratios are identical for the ZL1, Z-28, and 1LE, the only difference is gears 5 and 6, with the Z-28/1LE having .74 for 5th, and .50 for 6th, with the ZL1 having .80 for 5th, and .63 for 6th.

Is the final drive gearing known for the Z/28? Sorry if I missed that.
