...Alright, what's the big panic all about over here?...lol...How could they be testing a car at Nurburgring with an engine that doesn't pass emissions for production?....I read the posts, didn't quite get the gist of what's going on...lol...

I think he was implying that mass producing the LS7 would destroy GM's CAFE average, Hence the LS7 not staying around long as a production engine in cars. I could be wrong though.....

...So, does that suggest that "production" numbers for the Z/28 would necessarily have to be limited, just to enable a limited number to be built??...

None of us know for sure, my guess is that for now they will build/sell as many as they can but I don't think this version of the Z/28 will be around very long. JMO

True Mac, limited by price, and how many LS7's they can build, not by an artificial number...and they will be rare, a half year MY 14 and a full MY 15. Then, goodby to the LS family, hello LT DI family and the new model for MY 16. GMPP will still offer LS7's for sometime in a crate.

I think if these circumstances were better understood by everyone, it wouldn't cause so much angst as to why an LS7 is just "dropped in" as an available option for other models of Camaros....just sayin'....

So I wonder what this means for future Z/28 endeavors...... Going to be hard to make a non LS7 6th Gen Z/28 perform like the 5th gen Z/28.

Oh to be a fly on the wall in GM meetings

There is always so much more to the "big picture".

I can imagine with the huge ports; intake velocity is too low at idle to fully atomize fuel with a port injection set up.

Direct injection and variable valve timing will clean up idle emissions (they do it for 9000-rpm Ferrari and Porsche).

As you all know; valve/port sizing and cam timing optimized for producing power at high rpm will compromise low speed running or idle, hence all super car manufacturers have the direct injection and variable valve timing in their tool box

Watch for the LT DI version of the LS7 in the Z06 or ZR1

You know as much or more as I do.

The LS7 production motor installed in the Vettes was under some type of agreement, emissions waiver or exception for limited volume vehicles. The Z/28 is the beneficiary of the 'left over' motor waivers or exceptions or actual motors. To me that means the Z/28 is a limited production vehicle, because the number of 'exempted' motors available is limited.

That is also the source of the confusion. If they are building Z/28 LS7 motors through October, they are not 'surplus' Vette motors sitting on a shelf in a warehouse. IF and I do mean IF the motors are actually left over surplus Vette motors sitting in a warehouse that COULD mean the Z/28 delivers at a lower MSRP. If by 'left over' or 'surplus' we are talking about the paperwork for the emissions exemption and the motors are being built right now then the cost of the LS7 going into the Z/28 is the same as the cost of the LS7s that went into the Corvette.

Hib and Tom are very well connected. They say the Z/28 motors are being built as I type. They are most likely correct and my tea leaves lied to me. Or not.

So how many Z/28s will they build? Great question. I wish I could do a poll within this thread. How many Z/28s will be bought?

How many Z/28s will be sold with a MSRP of $59,999

How many Z/28s will be sold with a MSRP of $69,999

How many Z/28s will be sold with a MSRP of $74,999

How many Z/28s will be sold with a MSRP of $79,999

I can create scenarios for pricing across this range with the variables being the cost of key components and the business case for the Z/28. Warehoused engines would be a requirement to hit the $59,999. My post is nothing more than reading tea leaves influenced by spurious bits of information, gossip and the position of the moon in relation to the alignment of Jupiter and Mars.

Allow me to add I expect the Z/28 to be between $74,999 and $79,999. Any price lower than that is a GIFT from TEAM Camaro.

I need to do some research on the CC brakes.... Seems like it could get very expensive using this beast as a DD.

I wouldn't want to DD those tires either.... A second set of wheel and tires would be needed.

Don't get me wrong I am absolutely impressed with the Z/28. I just think it's a little to hardcore for ME. I'm sure there are people that will DD it but they probably have A LOT more money than I do.

....Just a wrinkle/guess on this LS7 business...."Warehoused/existing" motors will be used for Z/28 builds and could theoretically be exhausted at some point...On-going "Production" would be for warranty replacement, parts availability only, aftermarket, etc....??

One rumor out there is the LS7 Z/28 may be only a one model year run because the special conditions that allow the sale of the LS7 expire in 2014. I expect the LS7 to continue to be built on the new facility as a crate motors for years to come.

...If...(BIG IF)...the number of warehoused LS7s is a given...IF they make useable ones through Oct of this year (?)...and the max number they can build in a day through October is known.....A little detective work should tell how many Z/28s could be built....lol...

I went to a cubbies game once. It cost me $40 to park my car. The people sitting around me drank white wine, ate quiche, took a million pictures of the historical landmark and had no clue the home team was losing from the start. They had a cubbies experience

BTW: Cubs 1 Dodgers 10 No one seemed to care.
