Why do you LOVE the ZL1?

A little different take on Jashobbsie's thread.

Why do I love the ZL1? Well a little convoluted but I'm a huge fan of Top Gear and 5th Gear. The dig on American cars is that they couldn't take a turn. GM started to fix that with the first gen CTS-V. There was some criticism of the 2010 Camaro's handling and GM reacted quickly. To me, the ZL1 and forthcoming Z28 finally answer our European critic's question.....can America build affordable cars that actually handle on a road course? Not just yes, but hell yes!

^^^ Bout says it all. The style is magnificent. The power...well, when I get one I suspect it's gonna knock me out over my SS. The front end is aggressive. The interior is menacing (with the black door panels). The sound is fabulous. Where's my checkbook?

Why do I love my ZL1?

Because of the aggressive sound, menacing stance, impressive sound, the near supercar handling and power on an affordable budget, comfortable interior and most importantly.... its is full of bad@$$ery!

It has functional back seats,
poor man's version zr1 powerplant,
and it is dirt cheap to track and mod.

Its simply a bad MoFo. I cant help but say that, even out loud but the full version every time I see my car. It makes me happy, no matter what mood I might be in. The sound at startup, the sound the entire time, the curves, the crazy wide tires, the stance, the interior, the little streak of light on the top of the door trim inside at night, the pin point handling, the eye looking head lights, the power, hell, even the smell....If the car was a woman, I would marry it! My wife would totally understand...

The versatility. And theres soooo much untapped potential. In my opinion, the Gt500 is a great car, but it basically has parts that normally offered through the aftermarket. The cold air intake, the carbon fiber driveshaft, the bigger supecharger, the higher boost. Thats the difference. Apply to parts to the ZL1 and its bye bye Shelby.

And thats only for drag racing purposes. The MRC and IRS on the ZL1 is amazing. And with a few weight reduction mods, watchout. The ZL1 is basically a CTSV/ZO6 in a Camaro package.

My plans are to put a 427 and kenne bell 2.8lc, a CF driveshaft, and a few weight reduction mods. Perhaps a small shot of NOS to keep the KB cool on track days.

I had a good talk with a guy at a reputable speed shop recently who said this about cooling. They like meth kits, and they prefer 100% meth to a meth/water mix for two purposes, better cooling, and they think the water may be what causes the corrosion if any. Further I asked so what if the coating comes off of the rotors in the supercharger, he said, you just get them recoated down the line. And I was like so nothing harmful going into your engine, he said no. We didn't talk about NOS, but I'm just saying he likes meth for the same reasons your talking about NOS.

Still off topic. I don't like either NOS or Meth. I prefer to increase cooling capacity through larger more efficient coolant pump and larger heat exchanger.

Yeah they did that too, upgrade heat exchanger, Rotofab reservoir, pump upgrade, and progressive meth kit

No no, they didn't just throw meth on this ZL1 and call it power and cooling. This ZL1 in particular they had worked on was decked out. I can't say exactly what, but they had gotten into internals, like cam and most of the components that go with it.

Go look at the ZL Fun at Vengeance thread and look at my pulls on the dyno. You see the torque drop from 1st run to 2nd run, he was explaining that's all heat. And he didn't like the RX chiller and we didn't really go into why.

And this was such a nice thread too, I like hearing why everyone loves their ZL!

The ZL1 Camaro has the supercharged engine of a Corvette, and the suspension of a Cadillac. What’s left to mention.

Oh I forgot, it will blow the doors off of some of the European models that cost twice as much, EXCELLENT!
