That stuff really gets me going. I enjoy all kinds of music....a huge variety, but today's rock is not the same, and doesn't have a guitar solo in every song like it used to be.

Things change, and we get older. That's just the way it is.
It's just an evolutionary step of rock in general. That stuff will soon be considered classic rock. I love Metallica (literally favorite band ever to the point where if I get killed at work One and For Whom The Bell Tolls will be played at my funeral...it's in my will). I love their stuff pre 1990 and especially the solos. And I agree with your part in bold. Metallica kinda brought that back with Death Magnetic.

But really? Where's today's Nirvana? Who's the standout music altering band? All I hear is teeny bopper YouTube sensation crap.

From what I've heard, Justin Beiber called himself the Kurt Cobain of today.

Every "hard" rock station we get here plays basically pop music. I hate it. Occasionally good songs, but rarely. That's why I invested heavily in FFDP albums.

There are tons of great bands out there, none of them are on the terrestrial radio stations. The days of payola are gone, I'll just purchase a 3 minute commercial spot and play my song instead, then its legally purchased commercial time.

Keep in mind, almost none of the bands that you mentioned in this thread were the most popular bands in their time. Nirvana had 1 top ten hit in the US (Smells Like Teen Spirit) and it only hit #6. Now go to an Alice Cooper concert and watch Orianthi tear it up on guitar, that broad can wail.
