Pull off your intake tube and run a paper towel across the throttle body. If you pick up oil, you could benefit from the breather.

What about the issue I've read about where oil is coming out of the breather cap? Is that a common concern or some isolated incident for one reason or another?

Most catch cans are garbage. There are only a handful that are actually effective. Which system are you referring to?

Only if installed incorrectly or the V6 fixed orfice clogging.

There are pics and details in the only thread I could find....read in detail.

If it is an open breather, they all will allows venting and oil to escape as its opening the system to the atmosphere.
