Hey doc i know you're not much of quarter mile guy but did you ever get the chance to actually take it to your local track to get some numbers? I love your build btw the unorthodox way to produce power is the mpst effective way

Not for the quarter mile, but the guys who do run the quarter tell me with my setup I'd probably run somewhere in the 11's. One of these days I may run the quarter once just to get an actual number.

Thanks for the compliments, I've really enjoyed this car.

How much weight have you shaved off in your engine bay so far Nathan?

Thank you Justin. Coming from you with the crazy epic build you and your brother are doing, that's generous praise indeed!

After reading through you and your brother's thread, I've been pondering many things. I'm considering going more towards track-based. I'm researching wheels/tires that are more track oriented, racing seats/harnesses, upgrading the front brake calipers, and possibly going with the Optic Armor glass for front and sides. Not sure about replacing the rear window since it has the defroster grid and radio antenna in it. I'm waiting on exact weights of the Optic Armor pieces from Jim.

Your guy's thread is a treasure trove of useful info, ideas and it's a real pain in the butt...er...wallet. I can't wait until you guys finish so I can take my credit cards out of hiding.

Can't wait to see where you go with that. There is a lot of weight to be lost in the seats. The stock seats are so freaking heavy! Plus some more aggressive Side bolsters will keep you in place nicely at the track. Win win

G5.R is getting some very nice seats.... soon hopefully.

There is indeed a lot of weight in the seats. The driver's seat is 54.6 lbs, the passenger seat is 44 lbs. That's 98.6 lbs total. Right now I'm looking at Sparco Rev competition seats which weigh 15.9 lbs each. That would save over 66 lbs right there although I'd have to add the tank plates, harness bar and 5 point harnesses. I'm guessing maybe a total of 50 lbs of reduction after everything is equalled out.

Optic Armor stated replacing front and rear glass would save 40 lbs so I'm hoping front and both sides instead of rear window would save at least 40 maybe 50 lbs. I know the door windows are pretty big and heavy.

So seats and glass could be as much as 100 lbs of weight savings; that would put me at 3,588 lbs with a full tank of gas. Not bad!

As some point though it gets to where I have to consider cost versus value. I'm already in pretty far cost-wise so do I want to spend more, or possibly just get a Z/28? They've done and are doing things with that car that just isn't practical or possible for me to do with mine.

Did Optic Armor say how much lighter the side glass was over OEM?

Let me know will you, it might be worth it to switch out my side windows since the rear glass would be too involved (having to figure out a new radio antenna and whatnot).

sub 3600 lbs with a full tank would be AWESOME! And at your power level, your already in z/28 territory.

But man if you have the opportunity to get a z/28 on your hands! exciting stuff for sure!

Doing some upgrades to previous um...upgrades. Yeah I know.

At any rate, I just received a set of Pfadt's gorgeous Tri-Y headers and cats. The workmanship is beautiful; even the box they came shipped in was nicely done!

The headers themselves weigh 12.52 lbs each, and the high-flow cats weigh 3.42 lbs each. The collar clamps to connect the headers to the cats weigh .625 lbs each so the combo of header/cat/clamp weighs about 16.57 lbs or basically 16 1/2 lbs each. That is very light! Compare that to the factor exhaust manifold and cat combo which weighs 23 lbs. The combined Pfadt set saves 12.8 lbs compared to stock.

I'm planning on a before/after dyno/install session in a couple of weeks so I'll have the upgrade comparison between the Bassani headers and cats which are currently on the car, and the new Pfadt setup. I have to take the car in next week for some paint repair (hit an orange cone at speed on the racetrack which busted up the lower yellow accent stripe in the front) otherwise I'd get the headers installed next week.

I'm also putting together a lighter track set of tires and wheels; the wheels are at the paint shop right now. I got a set of Enkei RPF-1 19x10's and some Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires in 275/40-19. The Enkei's weigh 20.175 lbs each:

and the Michelin's weigh 29.275 lbs each:

The Enkei RPF-1 came in silver but I got the rim lip polished and I'm having the centers painted to match the yellow on my car.

I should get those back next week and I'll get the tires mounted and do a final weight measure. Even with the TPMS unit, valve stem and balance weights I'm expecting these will be 49 lbs each plus a few ounces. That's over 7 lbs lighter each over what I have now, so the combined set of 4 should save me about 29 lbs of unsprung rotating weight. That will have the same effect as pulling roughly 140 lbs of dead weight out of the car.

After I get all this new stuff installed I'll take the car to the truck scale and get it weighed again. I'm estimating about 3,658 lbs with a full tank. I'm looking at Sparco racing seats, tank plates, harness bar and 5-point harnesses and I estimate I can save about 44 lbs there. The seats I'm looking at weigh 66 lbs less than stock but the tank plates, harnesses and harness bar adds 22 lbs back. If I go that route that should put the car at about 3,614 lbs with a full tank. It would be nice to find another 15-20 lbs of weight savings somewhere so I could get the car under 3,600 lbs but I'd have to think about that carefully to see what and where would be the best place to find that.

Anyways...the car just keeps getting better and better.
