$2 Mod

Bought this piping from JoAnnes Fabric for $1.99

I have the plastic panels and there was a good size gap along the bottom and thought I could throw in an accent. Used panel removing tools to shove the piping in the crack, laid it down flush to make sure it ran strait. Carried it across my dash to other side of steering wheel. $2 and $10 minutes.

What do you think?

Man that is sweet.. it was like impossible for me to go around the top of the panel and the door panels with the hard plastic insert... maybe it was easier with the cloth panels? Or do youthink I should be able to do it also?

The door panels were a big PITA, even with the cloth panels. Just take your time. I went through several credit cards. The dash would be easiest if you just popped the panels out a bit.

Do they just pop out?

Technically, yes. They don't want to come out, though. You need to persuade them.

It's really not so bad. Go to Freight Harbor Tools or even Home Depot and pick yourself up some trim tools.. I literally did that much in 5 minutes. I got blue fabric dye pen as well to color the snipped ends (white on the indside) but you could also burn them with a light to seal them in.

I am going to try to go around the rest of the panels, tops on mine seem to have ZERO gap, but and going to do my best to pop a corner up and feed it through.

NICE!

Did you get the idea from a Challenger forum? - It's a very popular mod with that crowd, but using vinyl piping and welt.

Very clever use of resources. I like it..a lot. How long have you had it in now? Wonder how long it'll last before you have to "retighten" it back in position.

I'll take more pics tonight.. actually got it to go on the top too. Looks a lot better.

Those panels are in there so tight I don't see them moving. Will keep you updated though.

I did this a while ago as well. I liked it but eventually painted my trim blue instead.

Was this done with the same material?
