My ALMOST Money Shift

So as I was nearing my exit on the highway, I pulled to the right lane and get ready to get off. I had to slow down to 45 because I end up behind a slow moving truck right before my exit. I go to downshift from 5th into 4th to get off but what do I get instead... 2nd!. The RPM's only shot up to 5000 or so and I quickly put it into neutral. I was really lucky I was going so slow otherwise I wouldve had a serious problem. Nevertheless, I gave myself quite a scare. I've heard the stories of the damage a money shift can do

Did that a few times when I first got the car. You know right away and all it takes is to push that clutch in.

45 in 2nd is a big deal really. Now if you were going highway speeds it would have been a different story but a majority of the time the Synchrons will grind and not allow you in the gear before you even were able to release the clutch.

It doesn't really happen on a down shift too often, its the 3-4 but hit 3-2 that gets you. Most of the time the syncro's won't even let you in though.

Best regards,

Tyler

2nd at 45 is fun...not a problem at all...should have just smashed the gas pedal down instead of pushing the clutch in.

Yep it is very fun, mine is always accompanied by wheel-spin so I have to pay attention to road surfaces lol. I was thinking I go from 5 or 4th to 2nd alot in them situations where you are like "ok 4 or 5th is not getting it".

I shift down into second regularly at 35-45mph, when I am nearing a curve, I just blip the throttle and to raise the RPM so that when I do put it into second it doesn't ramp the engine up and starve for oil for a second or two, or for more worse lock the rears going into a curve...
