With all the problems that come with owning a manual, when I sold my SS and bought my ZL1 I went with the auto... I was tired of all the problem... Clutch sticking to the floor, changing the fluid frequently, inconsistent times at the track... Clutch replacement... The 4 hour traffic jam coming home from Camaro fest.... Agh.. Hell with a stick. Plus a manual transmission is a lot harder on the drivetrain.

+second gear grind, skip shift and hill assist...no thanks, didn't mind paying a bit more for the auto. Getting the range for the afm and i'll be good. Down the line
I'll do a ls3 conversion to and I'll be set. Plus you can't go wrong having the auto and the paddle shifters for manual control when I wanna have fun.

Ever wonder as to why 302 Boss and Shelby GT500 Mustangs only came with a stick....
I traded a '10 SS for my current SS M6.... A manual lends a special connection to the car, and for me, that’s highly appealing. The car is a Blast to drive! Oh... one more thing, I do not miss the L99 at all...

To OP, test drive both.... You will then see what is more suitable for your ultimate driving pleasure.

Get the manual transmission. Shifting gears is a blast. Top ten reasons to get a manual.
10. You feel like you have more control on how the car drives.
9. No gear hunting.
8. Easier to rev.
7. Your wife may not know how to drive it...good thing.
6. Keeps your reflexes in tip top shape.
5. Car jackers may leave you alone....most don't know how to drive a stick.
4. Three pedals is always better than two.
3. It's easier to do burnouts.
2. Really tests your shifting skills and ability. Always room to improve.
1. You can change your shifter knob with cooler ones.

I NEVER drove a stick before, but I have a 1LE on order.
...
I always wanted to learn and I know I'll force myself to learn if I'm paying $40K plus for it

Thanks for the replies. I like coming back to a thread full of replies.

And as for that last picture, I thought 6th gear was pretty much to save gas while
5th was the fastest?

Thanks Dad, I'm glad you know me well enough to judge my boredom with my A6. I'll be more careful next time and be home by 8.

Sorry OP for the distraction on your thread. Hope you enjoy the manual!

@OP: Go for the manual. I commute in dense traffic every morning and don't regret the 6 speed one bit.
First off I have NEVER owned an automatic transmission vehicle.

Those that complain about the hill start assist just don't know how to use it. I hated it at first, kept stalling the car because i wasn't used to it. There's just something about it that screwed my brain up (probably my muscle memory) because there was no sense of urgency in releasing the clutch after letting off the brakes.

BUT once I figured out how use it I quit stalling the car and don't burn my clutch at all on hills.

Bottom line, get the Manual tranny. You'll never regret it.

I took 1 hour of manual driving @ the local driving school in preparation because I had no car to practice on like you, worked wonders.

Pretty much everyone drove manual back in the day, hell 16 year old girls can do it, so can you.

You can get an auto and enjoy it for a day... or get a manual and enjoy it for life.

All depends on gearing for differential and transmission. Typically fifth and sixth gears are OD's. Besides, the saying would not look right on fifth gear.

Get the stick man, the way i learned was a 10min ride with my friend in his civic. all i did was watch him, then when i saw the cobalt ss and the salesman wanted me to take it for a drive i told him that ive never driven stick before, he simply tossed me the keys and said "you have to learn somehow" lol long story short i drove it off the lot and i couldn't be any happier. i dont know about the others but i took me a good two months to not even think about how to drive (ss cobalt clutch was a little touchy)
with that being said i love manuals and i made sure i got the camaro in manual and its a blast! the only way i would buy a auto is if i had a family van or a physical condition that prevented me from driving a manual.

You'll hear many, MANY, excuses from auto owners as to why auto is better (they're so disillusioned that it's cute). And you'll hear from a few auto owners who wish they had a manual, but I've never once heard of a manual owner who wishes they had an auto...

From what I understand, dealerships don't let you sign the paperwork for an automatic Camaro unless you first admit to your parents that you're a homosexual. I'm truly glad that this admittance came so easily to you

Seriously, it's a freaking transmission. Same car, same power. BUT automatic is more efficient and quicker...

No actual I went in, filled out some paper work and the dealer noticed I wrote down that I had an average sized penis and asked me why do I need to get a manual. Found out that I was fortunate and didn't need it and got the auto.
