Massive rain today and rear floorboard behind passenger seat soaked!!!

I have had my 2012 2SS RS convertible for about a year and maybe have had the top down 10 times, but today when I picked up my son from daycare I noticed the rear floorboard behind the passenger seat was soaked. The floorboard behind the driver seat was dry. I called the dealership and I have to drop if off tomorrow for a "leak test", for those that have gone through this...anythng I should be aware of when dealing with this and the dealership?

Seems like there is a potential TSB on both the top and the bag? Is this something I should mention?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Same thing just happened to me. I almost guarantee that the drain came loose on that side because mine was the rear driver's side that was soaked, no other areas.

It is covered under 3/36 warrant Should only take 1-2 days to fix & dry out.

Greetings cflbuckeye,

Sorry to hear about the leak. I'd be happy to research any recalls for you. Glad to hear you're taking it to the dealership for a diagnosis. Feel free to PM me and reference this thread so I can explore this matter further for you!

I would have them replace the carpet in the back as we'll since it will probably mildew and smell - should also be covered in the warranty, keep complaining till they do it right. Sorry you have to deal with it, make sure you go through the car with them before dropping it off and picking it back up, they can seriously damage the paint and interior when doing this work- just search the forums to see

I had the same problem. The installer of my fourth roof said that when the place that replaced my third roof didn't install the drains properly. They replaced all my carpeting and put a new water management bag in with larger drains. So far so good. Good luck

Thanks...wouldn't had considered that, but makes sense. It's been raining here for a week and a half with this tropical storm and my car is filthy...I hate dropping it off at the dealership dirty...as it's black and the potential for dealer installed swirls frightens the piss out of me!

Good and bad to see I am not the only one that has gone through this. =)

Anyways, it's the original top and prior to this I haven't had any issues. Things like this make me think I should purchase an extended warranty. I have already had my dash replaced (bubbled) and the replacement is bubbling...so I will have them replace that as well.

Does anyone know how to access the drain tubes to see if they're falling off? Once our warranties expire, it would be nice to be able to periodically check them & re-adjust them if necessary.

Well the dealership called and said that there is a TSB for some sealant that needs to be done to the door(s) and they feel confident that is why my floorboards were wet and said there wasn't a reason to do the leak test.

Anyone have any idea what this sealant TSB is?

Sounds like bull to me. Search the forum. It's the drainage bag.

I have to agree - the "leak test" consists of hosing the roof down & watching to see if any more water gets in...it's not too hard.

Yeah, that was sort of my feeling. I am going to try and get the TSB # when I go to pick it up.

How easy is it to check the drain lines myself? I can obviously hose it down and watch for leaks, if they don't do it.

SSTOKED has taken some pictures with the drain lines in view. Here's the link:http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...=235016&page=2

Try there & see what you think.

It must be contagious...my car is in for the same issue. It already has the new design bag/top, etc. The drain tube is probably dislodged. Unfortunately, the top fabric constantly pops out of the assembly above the driver-side quarter window, and a small hole is forming above that area too. The dealer will be addressing some long standing paint/clearcoat issues as well, so I think they will have my car for a while. I have a heritage grille and new lower grille to install in addition to a cat-back, but I'm not going to bother with any of that if the top can't be satisfactorily dealt with. I'm beginning to consider trying to get out of this car, unfortunately...

Good luck to the OP and others - I hope your experience with your dealer has been as relatively worry free as mine has to this point.

After the last drop off, I am starting to feel the same way. While she has been in the shop 19 of the ~130 days that I have owned her, and every shop visit has been something different, it is getting old. This is my 4th Camaro (5th if you count the Firebird in the middle and all prior had t-tops), and none of them have been in the shop this much. While the service writer is making sure things get done, having to wait 1.5 hours for a rental car last Friday actually had me looking around the lot at potential options. While I hate to make this comment, if I did get out of the car, I cannot see myself buying another Camaro vert at this point. Which means, I would have to go to another brand since with 2 little ones, I cannot justify a Vette for at least 5 more years.

Same here, but if I did it now I'd be out $3,000. I'm waiting until I break even, & then see how the 13's have been. I probably won't buy another Camaro though, even if there aren't too many complaints on the 13's. I may just get a beater & save for the 2d year C7 Stingray Verts, which should be around 2016/2017.

Hello pgustavson,

Sorry to hear you've experienced some difficulties with your vehicle. I also see you are already in contact with your dealer which is great. If you like, I can get involved to see your situation through with you. Would just like to make sure your issues are taken care of. I would need some information from you which you can private message me. If there is any way I can possibly help, let me know.

Got mine back this afternoon. Their diagnosis was - "45 minute water test found a couple of drips 4 inches to the left of right a-pillar. Recheck weather strip found front weather strip not completely seated. Properly install front top weather strip and retest with water for 40 min. No other leaks found." Hopefully, this was the cause. I will recheck with the next heavy rain that we get.

I know. We did have a downpour last night, but since the floor was not completely dry from the testing, I cannot tell if the rain had anything to do with it. For now, I have thrown the floor mat in trunk, and hope that everything will be completely dry within the next 24-48 hours, and then check with the next storm.

they might do it for so long in order to get different amounts of water at different intensities for different time periods.

I got a call from my dealer today and they said they need it for a couple more days. They said that the sealant added to the passenger door did seal, but they still see water penetration. So they are going to proceed with the deflector TSB (no idea what this is) and have to order new weather stripping and they are having it overnighted from Lansing Michigan. I "should" be able to pick it up on Friday, and I will be asking them to walk me through all the work they did.

In the mean time I am really enjoying the Chevy Malibu rental I have....not...

I had the same problem with mine as soon as I bought it, and I actually had 2 separate leaks. I work for GM and I talked to a tech at the proving grounds who worked in Camaro convertible development and he said 9 times out of 10 it is the drain hose not being installed properly. That was one of my leaks. I have a 2012 and it only has two drain tubes at the front that dump right into the 'wet' area of the quarter panel. Starting later in the 2012 model year GM added two additional drain tube which are routed through the trunk. The early design will keep your car dry if the tubes are fully inserted. If not fully inserted the water will end up in the rear foot wells. The tubes are very easy to check, and I'll try to post some pics.

My second leak was in the trunk area. There was not enough body sealer between two panels and resulted in a pretty good stream of water coming in under the tail lamp that would fill up the spare tire tub. This kind of leak is not so common.

Bottom line, if your foot wells are wet and the dealer tells you it is something other than the drain tube I would be suspicious that they didn't find the real problem.
