Having just ordered my MRT v1, I better look into finding the pipes to modify it myself. I don't want drone for the 705 mile trip at freeway speeds. So, better be ready to fix it before it hurts. lol

Just thinking, has anyone tried replacing the stock resonators with longer resonators/glasspacks?
Just wondering how that would affect the sound and drone with mrt 1 or 2.

I got my v1s installed, I can't confirm that it works, cause I installed the J-Pipes described in this thread before I installed them on the car. I got the U pipes from summit racing, measured about 29 inches, capped, adjusted the J to avoid the bottom of the car then clamped them on. 60-70 sounds wonderful, 70-80 has a little drone but nothing the sub thumps can't cover. You hear your exhaust at idle and every load on the engine. When you lift your foot, it almost goes silent. I am glad I skipped the drone.

I'm also happy with mine for the most part. The convertible bracing and what little room there is won't allow for the J pipes as far as I can tell. I don't really notice the drone that much anyways, it's not much different than the glass packs I had on my old 79 Trans Am...

I just ordered my MRT V2 from JDP Motorsports. I'm also going to do this helmholtz resonator bit.

I have two thoughts, that I'd like to add for those who are looking at doing this:

1) The 29" calculation is probably slightly off. We used 1100 fps as the speed of sound in the original calculation, however, the speed of sound varies with temperature. However, where the temperature matters is in the resonator itself, not in the main exhaust line, and I’m told the resonators don't get very warm because they have no flow through them... Since I don't have a car to experiment with, I'll just use 29" because it seems to have worked well for other. For those who have built systems, it may be worthwhile to try adjusting to a slightly smaller size, as if the temperature in the resonator climbs, sound will travel faster.

2) The popularly linked tubes are aluminium steel, but the MRT V2 is 304 stainless. In harsh climates like Canada and the northern states, if you are driving your car in the winter, this may result in accelerated corrosion because they are dissimilar metals. (Stainless steel 300 series annode potential is -.1 V, low alloy steel is -.85 V). Those who are selling their cars in a couple of years will probably not care, and those who never take their care out in the rain won't care either. But in case another cannuck reads this... You will probably want to get the 304 stainless pipes
(summit part# 622002-ss)

I can't wait to get everything on and enjoy the new sound! Thanks for all the guys who did the ground work, and built the first units!

Well I just had these installed by a local muffler shop. Seems to help with the drone around the 2k rpm mark. It's still there it's just toned done a bit.

I'll have to do some longer hwy driving to really tell though..

After reading through this thread ... lot's of good info. But curious, how many of you that are using the J pipes, have the Magnaflow Res X pipe installed as well? And are you still running the stock resonators too?

The Magnaflow resonated x-pipe eliminated the 1100rpm and 2000rpm buzz/rattle for me.

I have an x-pipe like this, I'd be interested in selling. Brand new, in box. Was going to do this mod, but ended up selling the car first. Pm me, I'd interested.

You mean "J" pipe? This isn't about x pipes
