Common thing is to have the piston skirts bent from the hit. The valve hits the piston off center and the piston skews in the bore. You can't see that unless you pull the piston and measure the skirt diameter.

My buddy who owns a shop will do a good visual, and if it all looks good then tell the customer that a valve job/replacement will fix it up but there is no guarantee how long it may last, that the proper way is to do a rebuild, then leave it up to them to decide. This is on older high mile low performance 4 bangers and such. And this is not because of his mistake. And this is not on a brand new warranty high performance car.
I agree with you 100% sir.

Flatbed dropped the car and the new motor off at Henna Chevrolet this morning. I spoke to the tech there that they assigned it to. Dude is a smart guy and has been working on LS based motors for a while. He said he'll make sure It is all done correctly and he'll take care of the car.

The "Other" dealer threw fender covers all over the front of the car it still managed to lightly scratch the front bumper.

Henna Chevrolet? - The tech that is going to work on the car is going to put that white adhesive plastic wrap all over the front of the car and the fenders as well.

So GM pretty much told the original dealer that they were incompetent, nice! Keep us all updated!

Well, I actually requested that the car be taken to a different shop and GM obliged.

now for the real question - when you trade in your car will the motor replacement depreciate the value of your car more? Just a question and one I would get answered if so then I would ask the dealer who damaged the vehicle to assure the difference of the depreciation if in fact it does.

I thought about that but Chuck Nash won't go there. It took a battle just to get them to do the right thing on this, I HIGHLY doubt he'll cut me a check.

It would bother me if a used car had a replacement engine, but it shouldn't really.

I'd look real close at the install, huge props if the tech is meticulous enough to put it back together as to look like it's never been messed with. That's what I really don't like about it. Used cars that look like people have had their hands everywhere in them.

Engine will have lower miles than rest of car, is it really a big deal or is it a 'perk'
The reason behind this particular engine swap is acceptable.

The dealer system can really handcuff manufacturers, especially in Texas. GM cannot sell/service directly to customers if they want to (they want to) and must go through a dealer. Tesla has had a real fight. We need to support GM if they did right in this case.

Tearing down/rebuilding a motor is not brain surgery. All of the TSBs on the motors GM puts together should show you that a properly rebuilt motor is at least as good as one put together at the factory.

Haha, the best part of this is that Chuck Nash will get a massive bill for this dealers labor.

A rebuilt engine yes, but not a factory drop in.

Good point. I wouldn't want it if they had to do any machine work on the block.

Remind the Henna service department that this is an audition for them. Many Austin area Camaro owners are anxiously waiting the outcome on this and will most likely factor this into where they take their vehicles for warranty work.

When is Henna going to be finished with the engine install? Looking forward to the resolution of this problem. I sure hope the lifters don't tick on the new motor.
