Well good luck either way! I'll continue to follow the thread to see what you decide.

I think he meant more in the lines of a leaking fuel line, brake fluid etc. that could of caused the fire.

This is what I was getting at. Sorry for the confusion, and no I don't think someone torched my car. I mean I was driving her when the fire started.

It probably was something electrical, but like I said - unless I pay for someone to figure it out I don't think I'll ever truly know what happened.

Got it. I would imagine something electrical then it got encouraged by the usual suspects. Better to not try and analyze it. The insurance company figured out what they needed to and since they are/did pay they are the only ones who need to be concerned with the cause. Cut your losses and take the money you are due.

Out of curiosity, what were the final numbers from the insurance company? Not to drag you through the dirt anymore but I'd be real interested to know how it all worked out - approximate value of everything versus what you got back for it.

Also, since this has been a kind of reality check for me... did you have GAP insurance? Anyone with experience totalling a car with GAP insurance I would love an explanation of how that works.

But, most importantly, my vote is for the ZL-1 if it's in your budget. The magnetic ride and all the other primo stuff that comes on there is sweet!

I'd rather not throw out exact numbers, but after going through all of my receipts and comparing the totals insurance gave me about 45 cents on the dollar for all of my mods. Which isn't great, heck it's not even "good," but it's better than nothing so I'm not going to rock the boat.

I had paid off enough of the car to where I didn't need GAP insurance, but to answer your question - GAP insurance is used when you owe more on your car loan than the car is worth. So say I still owed $25,000, and after she was totaled insurance only gave me $20,000. GAP insurance pays the remaining $5,000, paying off the loan. Does that make sense? I'm sure there's a better way of explaining it, but that's the best I can do right now.

That makes perfect sense, thanks. Actually it turns out my understanding was not quite right, I was under the impression that GAP would pay off the loan and the insurance check would all go to you. Guess it's a good thing it never came up, and I'm also past the point where it matters anymore.

45 cents? That really blows man, sorry I asked.

On a positive note, I'm really looking forward to seeing your new ride!

I had an experiance with the Gecko a long time ago similar to what you experianced. Needles to say, I'm a state farm customer now. I hope I never have to go through that again. You came out much better than I did on mods. I had to use a secondary insurance I had outside my auto insurance to cover my mods, and that only covered part of the stereo system.

Good luck with the next project. I just ordered my new fire ext. and bracket for the link.

Thanks, I figure I'll save money in the long run by not having to spend money on bolt-ons.

Probably not - don't want my next camaro to be a whole new story, just the next chapter. If that makes sense.

Glad to see you're sticking with the ZL1! You make a good point by saying it makes sense because you won't have to mod it much.

your ZL1 is going to be your DD? You may have problems in the winter with the snow, but i'm sure you've factored that in already

Have a set of Pirelli Scorpions for when the weather gets cold. Only used them for two winters so far, so still a decent bit of tread left. Though we don't really get snow in Northern VA
