Oh yeah.

Bolt on 370z's. There would be more but there simply less 370Z's on the road then Mustangs or Camaros and owners are less likely to take them to the strip. Plus most don't even bother to post their numbers on the list.

At thunder valley my friend did 12.6 @ 111 mph with full bolt ons(including 4.08 gears, rear end from 6mt swapped in for gear change) and 1.9 60 foot, it's a 7at. He's not on the list.
I'm still skeptical. You're telling me that a stock base 370Z on street tires ran a 12.93 yet a 370Z with a 50 shot ran only a 13.17...while other modified 370Zs ran high 13s and mid to hig 14s?? Yeah right.

And why are you posting their times over here anyway?? If I wanted to know what they run, I'd go over to their site and find out. This is a Camaro site. I don't see you posting over there about how awesome the Camaro is or the times we're running. Dude, if you're soo in love with those cars, why not just post that stuff on their site? I love Mustangs, but you don't see me over here praising them. And I don't go over to the Mustang sites praising Camaros. Nobody over here cares how awesome you think those cars are. And the few that might be fast does not mean that all of them are fast. Stock to stock, the SS will beat any of them. Equal modifications and the SS will STILL win. There is no argument.

I bought and now own a Camaro. I am on a Camaro forum. The thread is discussing the 370z and Camaro, I brought up some facts about the 370z.

I am not going to delve into all the variables at the track either(prep, driver, temp, DA, 60 foot, shift points, etc).

That is not a 370z "fast list", it's the times they got... Even if its joe blow who missed 3rd gear, he can still post his time.

I have already started modifying my ls1 and put on an OR/Y pipe and tune and I just bought it yesterday, stock LSx engines are generally turds... especially auto ones with GM torque management. With mods yes they are better.

I expect the worst at my track in this 100 degree weather. I will be happy if I get 13.9 or better seeing all the 5th gen SS's get mid-high 13's(my friend's SRT8 charger with intake/tune did 13.5 @ 105 mph as best run of the night not long ago). Come fall I hope for low 13's, maybe 12.9. 2.73's and 10 bolt being my primary weakness.

Last fall my friend did 13.2 @ 106 mph in his stock ls1 Camaro auto, so hope for 12.9 with minimal mods.

Here's the full list. The average of these times is 13.45, which is exactly in line with what every road test put the 370z at. The 370z is a mid 13 second car, per every road test, and per owners of 370z's.

Yes, I agree that they are on average a mid 13 car...the 370Z. Some cars may be exceptional since every car is not the exact same. And with a great driver on a great day in certain areas, yea they can do a hero run. But on average, they are not as fast as 08 is trying to make them out to be. And they are not faster than an SS whether it's stock to stock or with similar mods. In fact, the SS with similar mods would widen the gap, because the mods for 370Zs barely make any difference.

My fiancee and I settled this debate last night. I've got a 370z Nismo and she has a SS 6MT. After nearly 3 years we finally went out and raced. It took so long because I wanted to get tires that were actually worth a damn. The stock tires on the 370z leave a lot to be desired. After we went to auto-x last night we then went and had a little straight line fun. We did 3 drag runs, switching cars on the third run, and one rolling run.

1st drag: I launched perfect, she didn't, by 110 there was a 1/2 a car between us

2nd drag: I launched good, she launched good, by 110 my front bumper was at her side mirror

3rd drag: We switched cars. Now mind you this was only the 2nd time for her driving my car and 1st time racing it. I got a good launch, she got a average one, by 110 the 370z bumper was at the Camaro's rear wheels.

Roll race: Started at 60mph and both started in 3rd. By 130 we were next to each other with my bumper (370z) at her front wheels.

Take home from what I saw. First off in the drag race the cars seem to be mostly even with neither car pulling on the other until about 80mph. At that time it seems the Camaro does start to pull. In all three races that is where the Camaro made it's biggest pull. Secondly, and most important, the cars are so close performance wise that it really comes down to the driver. On paper the edge goes to the Camaro and I'm sure a single driver driving both cars back to back will probably pull slightly better numbers with the Camaro. But on the street or at the track with two average joes behind the wheel it's going to come down to driver. No sense arguing who is faster, rather argue who is the better driver.

On the rolling race the cars seemed even until about 4th gear and the Camaro started edging out. After about 115mph the Z seemed to be in it's stride and stopped the Camaro from pulling. Basically telling me that as speeds increased areo started playing a bigger factor.

All that being said if we are talking about a 1LE I would whole heartily put the money on the Camaro simply because the more aggressive gearing will give it the advantage it needs to make a clear victory.

How the hell is an LS2 GTO going to lose to a G8 GT? It has like 40 more hp and weighs less. I doubt the tune does that much.

<shrug> I think the G8 had headers. Not sure if the GTO was stick or auto, but if auto that ancient 4 spd doesn't help it.

The LS2 in the GTO is overrated.

At local dyno day my friend's L99 with intake and programmer did 357 whp.

A stock LS2 manual did 323 whp, and another ls2 with headers/intake/tune did 366 whp.

LS2's really make more around 370 at the crank stock, an auto ls2 would have dyno'd significantly lower then those 6-speeds.

GTO's weigh about 3600 lbs. G8 GT's weigh around 3900 lbs.... The GTO has a 200 lb passenger(just a guess) and essentially eliminates the weight difference. From my experience close races like that are determined by whichever car has a passenger(when there's just one for the 2 cars).

The LS1 is a better more reliable overall package then the ls2 when it comes to heads/cams... It's stronger and the best years for the LS1. My friend's has 460 whp and traps 119 mph and pulls cars that trap 120+ in real life, his is the ls1.

Thank you for your post, sorry nobody has really acknowledged it lol. It was about time somebody just took both cars and put them head to head.

What were the results of the autocross?

Do you have a source for that? I'd like to show my friend. I have a friend with an LS1 GTO and one with an LS2. I've driven both and the LS2 definitely feels a lot faster.

My turbo'd SS Cobalt (stock turbo) with bolt ons and a tune would CRUSH 370Z's all day long. Not even sure how this is a debate.....1LE for sure in every imagineable way.

An hp tuned LNF Cobalt SS would walk a stock L99 or give an LS3 a run for it's money all day too... What's your point?

They even give minor bolt on 5.0's a run for their money... Don't try and make them sound slower then they are.

My friend owns a 320 whp pump gas HP tuned Cobalt SS. He walks away from 400 whp 5.0's.

With e85 tune I have seen them make 340-360 whp and 430-450 lb-ft.

LS2 is faster, but once you do a full on heads/cam car the LS1 is stronger and has just as much potential.

Are you saying heads/cam LS1 is better than heads/cam LS2 or better than stock LS2? And I'm assuming it's stronger because it's smaller displacement sorta how the LS7 isn't very good for boost?
