Everybody's car will be made and delivered. The question here is "when".

It shouldn't take long to figure out and fix what the problem is, though. Stay tuned.

The issues we have been seeing or very common for a new design car for the first year no matter who built it.

As to the Tremec T56 tranny. I am very surprised this is the issue. I beleive that tranny has been around for some time and used in many other vehicles.

I've been waiting for 5 months. My car is built and not being delivered. Believe me I am going nuts over here but everything that is taking place is routine in my opinion.

Also, I hate the UAW but isn't the tranny Mexican. So, the UAW has nothing to do with the tranny.

We are just a bunch of little kids who cant wait for Christmas.

I have had my 2SS/RS 2 and 1/2 months, 2025 miles. Not one problem. Taught my two sons how to drive a manual with it, so you can imagine how many times that clutch got popped and the car stalled.

Anyone who purchased or is purchasing the first year of a brand new model car and does not expect a few problems or recalls is kidding themselves. And if you think the foreign cars are any better, think again. I turned in a 1998 Lexus under the lemon law. Yep, they took it back and gave me another. By then, the '99s were out and I got one of them.

I have not had any issues with mine yet, but, after reading all the posts on this forum I know one will most likely come my way. I won't be surprised when it does and I know it will be handled appropriately by the warranty.

Anyway, just my two cents for what its worth.

If they don't have a recall, can we still take our cars in to have the tranny replaced anyways? I don't want to be driving always worrying about when my tranny will break and having to baby it.

Just a reminder to everybody to try and stay on topic, please.

We will know soon enough what exactly the issue was, the cause, and what will be done about it, so please have some patience.

The tranny is a Tremec TR6060, a derivative of the T56. It is the same tranny (according to Wiki) used in the 2007 GT500, 2008 Corvette, 2008 Viper, 2009 Challenger, 2009 G8 GXP, etc.

There should be NO reason we cant rev to 6000 RPM and dump the clutch. You dont think any owners of those other cars do that?

The tranny isnt the problem, it has to be something specific with a certain batch.

No. As stated in the OP, dealers won't replace anything unless it's a legitimate warranty claim....which this is not, yet.

So far, this issue seems to have been limited to a small amount of SSs, so chances are your car will be fine. In the event it's not -- that's what a warranty is for. There's no benefit to babying the car out of fear the tranny will break.

While your point is a good one, Tremec has many different versions of the TR6060, all with their own sub-designations like "MM6"... and all of them are rated to different power/torque levels. The transmission in the Viper, for instance, is NOT the same one in the Camaro.

I hear the occassional funny noise out of my MN6, but it drives fine. With only 1100 miles and a perfect break-in period so far (never exceeded 4000rpm, no stalls, no lugging in a high gear, and never seen 100mph), I really doubt I'll see a problem.

Maybe it'll just be a TSB that the dealers will handle the next time you come in for service.

To McGruff, no one is going to replace your tranny if it isn't broken. Drive it like you normally would, and if it breaks take it in for repair. If it doesn't break I hope you at least enjoyed the time you spent driving it.

The launch control is generating an extreme amount of energy then it's unleashed on the poor tranny lol. So KITT's fault.

The component is simply gonna have to be hardend and probably in future years might even need to make a design change or two.

Ok! Have to chime in here....... Had my Manual SS (#1848) for 3.5 weeks now, got 800 miles on it and haven't had not one issue yet! Although I haven't burned the tires yet, (waiting for the 1500 miles), I have gotten on it a couple of times and barked the tires hit'n 2nd and 3rd! I absolutely love the performance of this car and the attention it gets! When I do burn those tires the first time, I won't worry at all IF the out put shaft fails cause I know my dealer and GM will take care of it. That is the difference with this car and the company backing it, there are some oout there that would say.... sorry, you shouldn't have burned your tires and broke it! Nope, GM knows we're burning them and said it was a suppiler problem and are taking care of it!! I say... THANK YOU GM for 1. Kepping us informed and 2. For taking care of it!

Edit: Also forgot to add that on page 8-17 in the owmer manual, it says that if the car is to be used for racing or competitive driving (after break in) the rear axle lubricant must be replaced beforehand so before I do any burnouts.... Royal Purple in the rear to!

Since when has GM kept us informed about this. If anything I would give credit to the forum. This issue has been going on for some time and you have not heard a peep from GM. Don't be so naive, you paid good money.

I'm fairly certain that there's more than just "a small amount" that are affected. The fact of the matter is that noone knows yet how small or large the affected number is. If GM knew that it was a limited issue that they've already fixed, they wouldn't be halting production and holding cars in QC. I am confident that we will know MUCH more very soon.

GM was off last week. Now that they're all back on the job, they are studying the issue closely and doing a full triage of the situation. Being that my car was built after the ones who have failed (mid 16000s) but still shipped before they decided to put a hold, I am particularly concerned. I hadn't planned on doing any hard launches anytime soon so it's not a big deal right now but hopefully they understand the full picture soon. I will definitely be going a bit easier on it until we know more. There would be nothing more embarrassing than sitting by the side of the road in a brand new, bright orange Camaro waiting for a tow truck. I would MUCH rather drive it to the dealership to have the transmission replaced on my schedule! IF that's what needs to happen. But like I said, noone knows yet and I'm confident that once GM knows, they'll pass it on to us. That's all we can ask for!

The following release comes direct from a GM representative to us:

To all members who ordered SS manuals and would like updates on whether your car has been built and has shipped or is being held, please head over to our tracking threads for updates --> http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31614

No word yet on potential recalls, if any. We'll bring you updates as they come in to us, so stay tuned.

Glad I purchased an Automatic

Perhaps now, my order will finally be accepted by GM !

Yes, it should be built normally, but it will be held in Quality Control until they can be certain the issue is either fixed, or nonexistant.

The people who believe the issue is because it's an "American" car and imports never have issues are the heart of the problem with the big 3. Honda has more recalls than any other maufacturer and toyota had to recall tacoma's because the frame would rot out.

These issues are growing pains of an entirely new model. If you didn't want to deal with taking your car to the dealer a few times in the first year you should have bought a 2011. Anybody can tell you that.

Not to knock you or anything do you realize they are still people waiting from October if not the beginning of this year. You have been waiting one month I waited 6. To me that’s almost insensitive to others anyhow I feel your pain it only gets worse with time and more time and more time.
