Drag Radial Question

I have read in other posts that a 17 inch wheel would be preferable for the ZL1 for drag tires. The normal size is a 20 inch, so could someone explain to me the logic behind the 17 inch wheel.
for those with more technical knowledge than I.

slightly more compliant sidewall allows for a better launch as a 17" or 18" drag radial has a wider sidewall than a 20"

17" requires an expensive Weld RTs type wheel whereas using a C6 Z06 replica wheel +40mm offset is much cheaper for 18" (approx $200 each)

softer and more sidewall can take the shock of the launch more.
