It will fit behind either of the rear tires. Subthump makes an enclosure to house the 12. Lots more info in the audio section of the forum.

I just barely fit the JL HO112RG-W3v3 sub in my trunk, but it did go in. Tight fit but tons of bass.Name: jlsub.jpeg

Wonder how that compares price wise and performance wise to the smaller 3 speaker sub woofer enclosure JL makes specifically for the camaro. Did you consider that?

I felt the exact same way when I got my 2SS/RS. What I ended up doing to get a more enjoyable audio was to unplug the centre speaker to get Stereo effect and added two 10" sub in the truck. It's now much better and can live with it. Enjoy the ZL1, I am trading mine in for one in the spring.

I too was disappointed in the sound quality of the factory system so I installed the JL 700/5 with FARK v3.0. IMO the improvement in clarity is night and day when compared to the factory amp.

It still needs a serious bump in bass tho, so my next upgrade will be to add a sub.

The volkswagens with the monsoon hd unit and 8spkrs in a GLX passat sounded alot better.

I traded in a 2003 Passat on my first Camaro.

How do you unplug the center speaker?

I added the sub thump system with sub.....sounds better....but the BA Speakers still suck.....and you loose your center channel with that system.......still not impressed even after the upgrade...better than stock..but I grew up with a brother who built car audio systems back in the day...so I know what awsome sounds like.....Sub Thump in a zl1 is not it. I would spend the extra money if the stereo system really is that important to you and get a custom install somewhere with all new speakers, amps, subs. just my opinion.

I am particularly fond of the "I didnt buy this car for the stereo comment", I dont think anyone did actually, but if you are going to put one in a 60k car at least put your best foot forward. Stereo sucks, as does the old analog alarm clock looking digits. But I didnt buy it for that.

Stock system distorts too easily and sucks. But for 60000 you are not getting 4000.00 in sound system goodies.

In my M5 the high end system is a 3700.00 option.

I went with the Subthumb Fark, 10" Kicker sub and JL 700/5 channel amp. That made an amazing change in the improvement of the overall sound! I also added the hush mat throughout the car. Now I need to know what I should swap out the other speakers with. Anybody have any ideas on the door speakers with tweaters and the rear 5 1/2" speakers for my vert? I would like to get any help anybody would offer up, thanks.

I guess I'm the only one that thinks the "Best" sound system, is open baffles on the exhaust!

Has distortion and lacks clarity.

This is 100% untrue. I owned a 94 Cobra with the Mach 460, and it was much better than what is in my ZL1.

The newer versions of the Mach are even better.

I got the GM subwoofer option (by MTX). It helped a lot on the low end. That plus playing with the EQ. Still isn't great by any means, but I wanted to leave the car original with only GM parts. I probably could easily get a better sound system for less, but it's not my DD, and the windows are usually down and the exhaust sound is up!

I have no idea. I think the whole system is cheap and trash. The priority was/is vehicle performance. Nothing else mattered. :(

Agreed, but honestly the stereo is weak. In the convertible you can turn it up full blast with the top down and you wish it was twice as loud. I just came out of a 300C SRT8 with the Kicker sub system. It was MUCH louder and MUCH clearer. But not nearly as much fun to drive around corners.

No aftermarket system you can purchase in my opinion can rival the factory Mylink touch screen radio and you are giving up more than you're gaining in changing it out, unless you are talking about a 2012 radio.
