Duplicolor Tire Coat

I tried this product a little over a month ago and wanted to share my results. This stuff is "the bomb" for tires. I've used it on two cars now with great results. Duplicolor Tire Coat is basically a rubberized clear coat paint for your tires. It sprays on like spray paint, and dries completely dry to the touch. This means nothing to sling off, no gel getting on your paint, just a clean shiny tire!

The directions say to make sure the tires are thoroughly clean before applying - so I simply made up a bucket of car wash soap and water and scrubbed the tires down with a foam sponge to get all the brake dust and any other dirt and grime off the tires.

*** THE KEY TO THIS PRODUCT IS THAT YOUR TIRES MUST BE DRY BEFORE APPLYING! ***

The first tire I tried it on was shortly after washing the tires. While the tires *looked* dry, there was still moisture in the treads and as I sprayed the tire coat onto the rubber, the water ran and made the paint turn a nasty brown color. In dismay, I stopped applying and was in a dizzy about how I'd have to scrub to get this "crap" off.

The next day, cooler minds prevailed and I thought I'd give it another try now that the tires were thoroughly dry. I started with the brown tire. I sprayed it on and much to my delight, as the product sprayed on, the brown sheen immediately went away and revealed a nice black shine.

I went around and did the rest of the tires -- much to my delight, no issues!

Here's how it looked on day 1:

And 1 week later (June 15th) -- this is after going through a touchless car wash. I haven't wiped the tires or anything like that, just the high power jets. No flaking, no discoloration, a little less shine, but still great black tires! It was also overcast when these pics were taken.

These pictures were taken on June 23rd -- two weeks after application. 500 miles driven on the car since then. No tire shine gel or spray on applicant would last over 500 miles.

Loving how well it looked and worked, I applied it to my 4th gen, Red Alert. Just to give you guys an example of how it looks on different tires. This is after the same amount of prep -- rinse the tire, wash with car wash soap and a foam sponge, rinse off, let dry overnight, apply.

In both instances, I also did not tape off anything or shield anything. Like with normal spray paint, you can kind of control the spray pattern just by how far or close you hold the can to what you're aiming at.

Last, but not least, it's now been over a month since I applied the tire coat. As you can see, I also got new rims since then. The stock tires were dismounted from the steel heritage rims and mounted onto these aftermarket rims. IMHO, that's a really good test of this product because of the handling that it goes through to be dismounted and mounted. You can see a "line" where the tool was pushed into the rubber. I've been trying to let it go as long as possible without reapplying any more product, but I'm confident that when I do break down and respray the tire coat onto my tires to enhance the shine that the lines will go away.

So this is after one full month, the dismount and remount onto new tires, and over 1,000 miles. My car is a daily driver - in that time, it has seen torrential downpours, it sits outside every night, and has even driven through freeways that were flooded about a foot high. The product has been through quite the endurance test and IMHO it still looks pretty damn good! It's definitely lost it's "wet look" but what I love about it is that the tires still look nice and matte black. I'll also add that I only wipe the tires down once with a wash mitt after being mounted onto the new rims -- discount tire had globbed a bunch of paste crap all over the bead of the tires and it looked horrendous. That was back before 4th of July weekend, so the pictures below are a few weeks worth without any washing or wiping the tires.

Thumbs up for me too.. so far so good. 1 week on 2 dailys...still look good. Prep is key... i literally cleaned tthe tires 3x each with wesleys tire cleaner and scrub pad. Need to make sure to roll forward and get the bottom of the tiree where it was by the ground. To help protect rims while spraying, cut a circle on a pc of cardboard

Well - looks like I'll be having to redo the duplicolor tire shine coat sooner than later. I found my driver's side rear tire flat as a pancake today when I went outside. I had a 6" hex rod stabbed right through the tire. Thank god for Road Hazard Warranty from Discount Tire -- getting a brand new tire replaced for only $18.
