A custom cam might better be described as a "personal" cam. No way would I install anyone's secret cam. If I don't know the specs, it ain't goin in. I see some cams used by folks that I think are pretty dumb. Does that make them wrong? Hell no. Wrong for me may be perfect for you. It's all about the combo and what you're wanting the cam to help accomplish.

Cams are one big compromise. You get a little here and give up a little there. The neat thing about f/I is that you don't need a cam that causes your rig to be ill mannered. You can have it all. Great manners and stupid big power. Of course, if an ill mannered cam cranks your tractor, I'm not going to tell you your cam choice is wrong. Just becuz I wouldn't do it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. I've had my black car, my convertible, and my stupid big cam. I won't be revisiting any of those again.

Yup...FI plus a VVT cam is even more friendly....gains everywhere, no losses.

OP, no matter which cam you choose, having a tuner that knows how to make not only the power but how to make your car drive well is really a huge part of it too.

I had someone recently call me and ask me about the NightFury cam. He was having ECS install their sc kit on his car so there was only one correct answer to give imo........if ECS is doing the install and tuning, it just makes sense to go with their big blower cam. After all its their cam, they are doing the install and they install and tune it very well ALL the time.

Its not always about just trying to sell parts....

Might be the same boost, but it was using a smaller pulley to do that. If you just added tem cam the gains would be less.

I lost 1.5 psi of boost when I installed the cam with the same pulleys.

Of course there was a pulley swap to keep the boost the same. It didnt increase the overall psi though. Before cam 11psi, after cam 11psi. The goal was just that, nothing more. We know the cam will drop the boost a few psi so changes were made to keep it at the previous psi. SmokedSS wants the best possible gains to be able to improve at the track.

I should have done that, when I installed my cam. Have you had a chance to go back to the track since your rebuild?

How long have u had your D1SC on the car? How many miles? I've been reading people complaining about prochargers on the street leaking oil at the impeller seals. How's yours been?

I have never heard that. I have had mine for two years and about 12,000 miles daily driver with no issue. I Love it.

I was making 575 rwhp with the stock cam @ 11 lbs of boost. After adding the cam 665 rwhp @ 9.3 lbs of boost on the same dyno. Very happy with the results, but would love to bump it up to 11 lbs again.

Nice. Glad to see u enjoying your procharger. By far my favorite blower but I'm only used to using there race blowers. F3's and bigger. Built motors and crew chiefed for my buddies pro street mustang. Small block ford on alcohol making 50 pounds of boost. Best we managed was 6.50 @ 212 MPH. Retired from racing and now I want to play on the street!!!!

Can't decide between a procharger D1SC, Vortech YSI or Maggie 2300. The catch is, which ever blower I get it has to be able to run a cog drive reliably with a manual transmission on the street and not blow belts on violent gear changes. I've been told with the centri blowers running a cog on the street with a manual transmission really depends on how sturdy the brackets are. If there's lots of movement you'll blow belts all the time on hard gear changes. So far the Maggie is looking like the most reliable with a cog drive. I gotta have the blower whine sound!!!!! Need to find some guys with centri blowers and cog drive and find out what the real dealio is??

I hear some have ran the YSI with a cog on the street. Not sure about the belt life. How much power are you looking to make? Ysi will make over a 1000 no problem.

Just to clear this up...gpi ss3 VVT cam gained 110whp no pulley change and saw 10.7 psi at shift of 6400 before and now see 10.6 psi at about 6800 rpm shifts. There was no pulley change needed. A proper spec blower cam will do what u ask it to do. The cam was spec'd to not bleed off much boost...also steering midrange power since its a centri. U need specs up front on a cam before you buy.
