It'd be one thing if the Nurburgring were actually a power track. But anyone remotely familiar with the 'ring understands that it is a handling track above all else. There aren't that many long straights (though there is 1 gigantic one) nor are there many high-speed sweeping turns. So its kinda hard to classify it as a 'power track'

Yeah, THE PILL is completely obsessed with discrediting the Z/28 and every other Camaro. It's too bad words can't fix the fact that GM has spanked Ford, again.

LOL at THE PILL.

You mean Nitrous Oxide? NOS is a brand, Nitrous Oxide is a oxidizing gas. Not sure anyone uses it over there, we prefer boost.

No, it would have been more impressive with tires Chevy actually plans to sell with the car. JUST barely legal r Comps that you can't get as a dealer option? Meh, not as impressive.

Not nearly as impressive as spending more money on a Camaro than a brand new Stingray Corvette just to go slower anyway.

Most of us in the GDD section do not drive Hondas and we make fun of ricers. The only difference between our little forum and yours is we make fun of all ricers. By "ricer" I mean anyone who holds form over function. We too consider fart cans of obscene size and large spoilers on street cars ridiculous. Just as we also consider V6 Camaro's with bling-tastic wheels, said wheels covered in the cherapest rubber money can buy and European ricer "halo" lights to be rice. Because they do nothing for performance and infact the wrong wheels can even adversely affect performance. Especially when wrapped in Wal-mart grade rubber.

So please come over and visit. Feel free to join the debate. Some of us see it as impressive even with the R comps, especially considering the latter part of that run was in semi-wet coniditions. It's not like the Camaro has the lightweight advantage of the Corvette, the all wheel drive and technobabble wizardry of the GTR or the brute force of a Viper.

Cheers,

Oh we make fun of all ricers around here too, this is just one example so don't think of us only ragging on Hondas.
Most of the Ricers around that I know call it NOS no matter what brand used, it's just easier for them to say than Nitrous Oxide.
Weren't the tires that come on the Z/28 are the ones they used? I cannot find anything that says otherwise, As from the Chevy website
"CHASSIS
The tires on Camaro Z/28 are robust and massive PirelliŽ PZERO™ Trofeo R† 305/30ZR19 summer-only tires† — ideal for lateral motions, like corner entry and exit."
So how did you come up with the information the tires used were not the ones that will Come on the Z/28?

By the way, welcome to the forum.

Thanks all and I was mistaken, Chevy is selling the R Comps with the Z/28 package so my hat is off to them for that.

It was brought up because the article in question compares a 911 which ran the Ring on regular old street tires to the Z/28 on R Comps.

Now that I know they come with the car all I can say is don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

BUT it isn't unusual for Chevy to throw on some really exotic rubber to take top time away from other manufacturers. They did so with the ZR1, hence my ASSumption.

The Z/28, Z06 & ZR1 tires are all stock. They are all still street tires. BTW, the Trofeos are neither cold nor wet friendly...making it even more amazing for a Camaro.

Are you referring to the Pilot Sport Cup tires? Because those were optional on both the ZR1 and the Z06, part of the performance packages.

Yeah, and I guess 632 Horsepower didn't have anything to do with it.

I was amazed at the hate on the honda forum.

Not verbatim, but to sum it up, I basically read...

"60K for a 7:37 Camaro? I'd much rather have a 90-140K AWD Turbo car, thats so much reasonable/awesome! Did you see the Motor Trend 0-60 stats for the GT-R? I have such an boner!

OMG it has DOT approved R compound tires form the factory? WTF!!! Thats sooo gay! Its okay if you put them on the car on your own, but as a factory option this makes me think GM was cheating at the ring! GM is always cheating at the ring! Put a regular 305 tire on the Z/28 and it should add 15 seconds and be super slow! I won't mention the fact that GT3's and RS's had similar tires from the factory but P-cars are awesome....

Who cares that its a powerful and fast car thats fun to drive and can hold 4 passangers + trunk space; Camaro's have bad interiors and are for stupid Rednecks! 60K for a 7:30's car is a rip off!!! GTR's and 911 Turbo S's are so awesome!!....."

Agreed. I read all the posts on the Honda forum that the OP posted. It appears most of the argument was that the Z/28 was running non factory tires, which in fact is false as we all know.

Lol how can they really hate such a piece of engineering?.. I talked to a GT500 owner at a local car meet and told him I came there with my Camaro and we really respected each others cars. I can respect a tuner, if its tasteful. The fact is though a new Z/28 WILL run down a Porsche 911, stock for stock.

exactly. thats what I said in my post over on Honda:

"Everyone posting negatively is an idiot. The true definition of 'haters gonna hate.' As a car enthusiast, despite the Mustang being my 'rival' to my Camaro SS I just bought (and all the LS powered GMs I've owned), I acknowledge when the Ford achieves something. The guys acknowledging the impressive run quoted above are true car lovers, those that see what an achievement this is. The rest of you are what defines a Honda fan boy, and why you all have such a bad rep."

I found this funnny... but in the end of the day people look at our cars and jaws drop. When people look at their modded/stanced/cambered honda's they laugh. Most Honda people (cant say all because one of my closest friends has a nice Prelude and isnt a complete asshat) think they can add 5K into their 95 Honda Civic hatch, swap in a bseries and turbo it and run 10's... then end up running high 14's.

Ive got tons of stories of boosted honda's showing up on saturday night running their mouth and end up owned by either my 1LE or id really needed my 615whp 92 Jetta VR6 Turbo.

In the end Honda Tuners can only do one thing... Run their mouths because their cars dont do alot of running.
