I drove mine pretty gingerly til 500 to 600 miles then let loose on it like I stole it. That's what other's I worked with did and it turns out pretty damn well. Just make sure to change the oil after around 1500 miles no matter what you do.

I got my foot into it during break in but kept it under 4500 rpm for the first 500 miles. Also engine braked a few times per drive. Seated the rings well, hardly any oil in my catch can, just condensate for the most part.

I dumped the synthetic, put in Pennzoil, drove it like I stole it for 500 miles, put Mobil 1 in it, and all is good. The synthetics are slick and won't allow the rings to seat the cross hatch cylinders.

I heard pamper for 500 change oil and rip it. I also heard 1000 miles change oil a run it like you stole it. The last one said run for 500 miles change oil run for 2500 miles change oil and run hard. None of this really makes sense to me! I run many 60's gm hot cars and it was a typical deal brake in easy for 500 miles check oil for any signs of metal. If good start getting some heat cycles in and run it hard!

Factory oil until 1500 miles, then Red Line 5w-30. Penz Ultra starting next change before storage.

I would say just drive it normally for about 600-1000 miles before any hard driving. I don't think any early oil change is really necessary. Most important thing is not to overheat the engine.

Pretty much what I did. I eased into some WOLs under 4500 RPMs until I hit 500 miles. Then some (well quite a few I guess as my MPG was ~13) harder throttle applications until 1500 miles. Oil change, beat it.

It's the drive train as well as brakes and engine being broken in. Most buyers don't want a new car with 1500 dyno miles on it.

Never bought a new hot rod. All i ever had was 60"s hot rods. I build a bunch of sm blk and BB that i would brake in for 500 miles. It also depended if i build it on the tight end of the scale or loses end. I would check for any issues in the oil and go hunt for mustangs!
I would make sure drive train was set up to for hard hits.
Thanks for your input i really need to get some miles in. Maybe ill take a good trip up the coast and put some Highway miles in.

Drove slightly easy for about the first 300 miles to allow everything else to break in as well. Then rev up to 5500 and easy shift into the next gear. Changed oil at 750 miles with Mobile 1, but Mobile 1 was different back then. Started running it hard, with some easy running in between. 3000 mile was next oil change. Not much oil in my catchcan and I'm in the throttle a lot. Use but don't abuse it.

Just a little fun fact:

Did you know that federal safety regulations mandate that brake pedals must be unbreakable?

Think about it....
