Mine is a 2SSRS and I have the backup sensors, ABL doors, heated seats and mirrors, leather and HIDs and it had the polished 20" wheels on it which I had the dealership put my 22" Rohanas on the SS.
I was under the impression that the polished wheels were the SS upgraded wheels and the midnight silvers were the stander RS wheels which came on my 1LT with the RS Package.
Everyone I've seen with a 2SSRS has the polished wheels on them.

Well unless your ABL is Green then you don't lose ABL because it's standard in all 2LT/2SS's in Ice Blue lighting. You could have the dealer install Synergy Green door & dash inserts if you like them that much. If you lose the stock Rally stripes it opens the door for you to do something completely different with Stripes or hood vinyl wrap or whatever. The polished wheels are an option that RS cars can have instead of the Midnight Silver ones.

What big maintenance items are you looking at on a four year old Camaro?

Just my opinion... but (depending on how upside-down you are on your car) you may end up paying $30K or so for the new one. That's pretty steep, but it is a beautiful car (and a V8) so....If you have some cash to go with the trade-in, you may be able to get "right-side up" on any amount you have to finance. I would make this the deciding factor - DON'T dig yourself even deeper into negative equity. It will haunt you for years to come. Good luck!By the way, you have a beautiful car NOW.

Then take into account how much does your current car mean to you personally, after all you obviously had a plan for your current car for turbo, and who knows what else. I also wouldn't let possible upcoming maintenance costs make a decision for you because if you buy the SS there will still be the same maintenance costs if not a tad bit more down the road.

You just have to really think about all of those things and figure whether or not the pros outweigh the cons. After-all I'm sure there are good reasons you bought a LT over an SS in the first place.
Good points. Not to mention 30-50 cents a gallon MORE every time you fill up.

I'm sure it depends on many vairiables, but my insurance actually went DOWN $7 a month when I traded my 2012 1LT for my 2013 1SS.

To my knowledge oem parts for these ran out ages ago.

Thanks! That's one of the reasons I feel like I'm in a good situation as far as buying. I love the car I have already, and if the numbers don't work it's not breaking my heart.

As far as fuel - I'm already using premium in my car now so I'm not going to feel that jump in price. I'm re-thinking my driving habits as well.

I've got a 65 mile commute - but 62 miles of it is interstate with very little to no traffic. I shift pretty high and I like to really power through the on-ramps and pass the slow people. Somebody else on the forum made a good point to the effect of the V6 has to work a lot harder on those quick accelerations - so I feel like I'm looking for more power and pushing the rpms up higher - which hurts the MPG. I'm getting between 23 and 25 MPG per tank average with the way I drive the car. I feel like with some more disciplined throttle control (and more power available to me, which equals less work for the engine) I could realistically see low 20's for my MPG in the SS.

That little cost difference for the added fuel would be worth it to me with all the 2SS/RS options I'd be getting. A lot of those things - wheels, brembos, HID lights are already on my list of upgrades for my V6 anyway...

Another point I'm considering is the LLT engine's track record with oil and such. At 60k I'm already feeling the clutch degrading a bit, the brakes need pads soon and to add a possible complication with the engine would really up my maintenance costs on top of the aftermarket upgrades. I'm really paranoid about the engine blowing up at some point due to the oil issues some people have. I've been very lucky with the car so far, I just wonder how long that luck holds.

At this point I'm probably arguing with myself and making justifications - but I really appreciate all your guys' input.

Please keep it coming!

Im with this guy. Wanting a synergy green car would almost seal the deal. I really wanted a medium blue metallic 99 Z28 years back, it was a very rare 1 year only color, but if you looked thoroughly enough you could find very nice ones. I chose the wait route and kept my WS6 vert. Fast forward to last spring I wanted to revisit my search, I looked and looked and looked and I could no longer find one this color that was worth buying. I looked throughout the entire county I could only find 3 V8 cars this color and all had high miles.

Btw, the polished rims are still apart of the RS package. Midnight silver is the standard RS wheel color, but polished is/was the factory option.

How many miles do you have, and what big maintenance items are you talking about?

I have a similar commute. I can tell you that the LS3 will yield 23-26 MPG at highway speeds. It takes almost zero effort for the motor to move you along and to get up to speed.

That is good news! In my V6 with all my higher rpm shifting I average 23 mpg per tank lately, so I don't think the fuel cost is going to hurt that bad.

As far as maintenance, I'm feeling some wear in the clutch. That's got maybe another 10k miles at most on it. Options are severely limited there, and costly. Brake pads are worn, (plus I want to get brembos anyway). The biggest thing is the stuff like the known timing chain issue with the LLT, and oil life. I'm scared to death of spinning rod bearings, especially with it as my DD. I've been really good about scheduled maintenance, But I'm really paranoid as my mileage climbs and I've been so lucky so long.

I was also curious as to how a 2SS/RS would compare to mine in regard to options. I know I would get the leather and HIDs. I lose the rally stripes, but to me that says "blank canvas". I would trade my green door and dash inserts for the silver ones, would I lose my ABL?

What else would I gain/lose? ( obviously the V8 )

I ordered my 2LT/RS from the factory with Polished 20" Wheels because the MS wheels just looked like dirty wheels to me.

I know there are ways to decode the VIN and find out if it came from the factory with the RS package. By looking at the pics, it looks like it has painted roof ditches and not the black ones so I think its an original RS car.

Well thank you guys for all replying, but it looks like I can't make the trade happen after all. I'm still dealing with some stupid stuff the Navy dropped on me with after they medically disqualified me and subsequently discharged me. So my otherwise impeccable credit has a big glaring negative account on it, care of the US Navy, or rather DFAS. A big thank you for my service as it was... Sorry to vent, but this has been an ongoing battle against some pretty ridiculous bull***.
