Yes at each corner of the opening. I cut two opposite sides first. After cutting the two sides use several layers of tape on both sides across the cuts you made to add support while you cut the other two sides. Of course if you use a dremel that won't be necessary. I just have a harder time controlling the dremel than I do a jigsaw.

If you are planning on ordering more than one item, say insert and splitter we can work out a combo pack.

About ready to pull the trigger on this, just trying to decide if I should have it painted: 1. silver to match my hash marks
2. CGM to match the body
3. black and change the hash marks to match

Depends, do you want it to stand out or not draw attention to it. If you get it painted silver or black it will stand out more but then you are stuck with that accent theme for other stripes. It will look good in any of those colors.

Ya, I'm kinda leaning toward painting it silver. Looking over the CGM color thread it seems like 95% of the CGM cars that have stripes, have black.

so what holds the back end of the hood insert if you only cut a small portion for the slots? Im talking about the rest of the insert that goes to the windshield?

There are 6 attaching studs you drill holes for, two at the back, two in the middle and two at the front. More than enough. Plus you use the adheasive on it before bolting it down to assure it will never come loose. Mine has been on a year and a half and I have not had any problems.
