Correct me if I am wrong but I thought that your warranty will only be voided if a specific aftermarket part was a direct reason for the failure, and has to be proven that that part was the cause?

It's all a gray area, it really depends on what your dealer can, or is willing to try and get away with. A tune will almost always result in a void power train warranty if something goes wrong with your engine.

How much can you upgrade the engine and rear before you need a new a more capable transmission?

Side question what transmission? Tremecs from the SS or something else?

Also, have you gotten a quote as to how much they are gonna be to put in?
N0 quote yet....still trying to sort out the tune...Once I figure out who is going to tune it I will have the cams installed. Also, adding a fti 3200 stall in the mix to better match the cams...Will probably have it done first or at the same time as cams...Hopefully before.

I don't know of anybody that has swapped out the AY6 for a Tremec. Sounds like it would get pretty expensive for custom work to adapt the Tremec to a V6. Maybe you would get better information in the Drivetrain forum.

I believe the GretchenGotGrowl car is somewhere around 650 hp before the stock 6L50e gave up the ghost?

As for what trans? I think it would cost a lot of money to go with anything except what was designed for it... However the 6L50 and 6L45 share a lot of common parts, I believe both are even available in some BMW cars, so surely there are some stronger aftermarket parts available to beef up the trans your car came with to make it last.

yea these are medium duty transmissions, and pretty durable for what they are. I will never have to worry about building the transmission in my car with the power level I am aiming for. Especially, since I will not be running drag radials and it is a v6. Does the new cts vsport twin turbo have a 6l50? I know it's running 420hp from the factory. I think I was looking at this the other day,,,wonder if you could tune some more performance from this.

I thought about doing 3.91 and a S/C but there isn't much of a point because your car's RPM will go up slightly but just enough to where your S/C is always running (If you get say an IPF) and you don't want that.

The 6L50E was designed by the folks that designed the Allison transmission (HD truck transmission ). Tuning of this transmission is what is needed to keep it alive and a transmission cooler!!!! Yes, Derrick found the limits for sure with his setup but I feel the rest of us in the 400HP - 450HP range will be good for a while with the transmission. So far over 230 runs with my car and still going strong. Karma don't kick me now please.

Yeah, and that was after several pulls on the dyno with a locked single-disk converter. I'm not sure a 6L80 would have lasted long under that sort of punishment.
