Fire On Factory Speaker

I have a 2011 Chevy Camaro that caught on fire from the factory speaker while I was driving. I wasn't smoking or doing anything. It happened while I was on the highway a few mins away from my home. I wanted to know if anyone else camaro ever caught on fire from the speaker.

Was it Black Sabbath or Deep Purple that did this to your speaker?

It's a joke about heavy metal music. Sorry.

And no, this has never happen to me in any car, but I would look for pinched wires in the trunk. For some reason, rear speakers are not well protected from cargo.

There isn't enough voltage to the speakers to start an electrical fire. Keep in mind that the car's battery and a junction box are in the trunk, and a short there is more than likely the culprit.

Chalk this up to the one in a million things that can go wrong, like the coil in the O2 tank on Apollo 13 that shorted and exploded when they went to stir the tanks. Its very rare, but possible.

Whoa, scary. I'm guessing you already notified your insurance company by now? I'd have the dealerahip repair it since they need to see this safety issue immediately.

Think I'll check my wires this weekend.

EricVerdunII,

Wow, I'm very sorry that this happened to you and hope no one was hurt. Have you contacted your dealer about this concern? Feel free to contact me privately if you wish to continue discussing what happened.

Wtf! You need to work your insurance hard to total this out. Imagine how "damage from fire" looks on a carfax. Also, I wouldn't ever want to drive it again cause if it happened on one side it could happen on anither.

Keep us posted.
