What is it with everyone on here using clay bar on a new car. Doesn't make any sense to me. Although my car doesn't sit out, but the more you rub, wash ,dry and wax the quicker you wear out the paint.

The car can pick up "rail dust", as well as contaminants in transit from factory to dealership. Also, if the car has sat outside, exposed to the elements for any length of time, there will be surface contaminants.

Its not a necessary step, but it does make a difference.

As for any "wear", if done properly, this isn't an issue.

why did you have to bring up rail dust? Mines been sitting in rail yard for 10 days with no sign of leaving.

That's cool bro. With the bad news coming from scott about his daughter, it's makes all of this seem very small.

Sorry to disagree, I agree with Moose.

For durability and ease of use nothing beats Zaino and I have tried them all!

I did the claybar test when my car arrived and found claying wan't required. A simple test, take a clear sandwich bag, place it over your hand, gently run it over the surface of your car, if it feels perfectly smooth you do not need to clay.

However I live 100 miles from Oshawa. This is the first new car I didn't have to clay.

That's a good test...I recently learned it too.

Claying isn't always necessary on new cars as you intimated. I did my Father's 'Benz, and the bar remained clean the entire time.

Another test you can do on towels to see if they scratch is rub them over
a CD (The CD Test) if they scratch the cd, they will scratch your new
camaro.

good tip. just be sure to use toby keith or someone like that. you wouldn't want to ruin a good CD.

Is it OK to wax over the black matte stripes? Just trying to get an idea if I can wax over the stripes or if I need to be careful around them.
