East Texas Muscle Cars' Turbo V6 Camaro to take on Nissan GT-R at the ring!

As featured on homepage.

Quote:
LONGVIEW, Texas — East Texas Muscle Cars is developing a turbocharged 2010 V6 Camaro with the ultimate goal of beating the Nissan GT-R around the Nürburgring Nordschliefe.

Rather than go the V8 route, "We wanted to do something a little different," says company spokesman Mike White. "We're seeing a lot of interest in something like this for the V6 Camaros."

The car, currently under development, will initially be a one-off to prove the concept and take the pulse of the market. Built with a forged crank, rods and pistons, the V6 will receive a modified Squires Turbo Systems remote-mount turbocharger kit and produce around 500 horsepower.

Other changes include a Baer big brake kit, lightweight 20-inch iForged wheels and Pedders coil-overs and bushings to address "the stock Camaro's tremendous understeer and cradle walk."

The company estimates the Camaro's final weight to measure about 3,750 pounds. "This will not be a race-prepped car. Anyone can build a racecar to beat a street car," White continues. "We will have a full interior and be running 275/35 Bridgestone RE050 [street] tires. Everyone knows the GT-R wasn't running street tires at the 'Ring," White continues, referring to the GT-R's results in the hands of Nissan engineers.

Once sorted, the company plans to crate up and ship both the completed Camaro and a close acquaintance's personal GT-R to Germany to run hot laps of the Nürburgring. "We want to beat the GT-R's lap time."

The car will debut at the 2009 SEMA Show this year in the Squires Turbo Systems booth.

Wow, this is gonna be a huge challenge. They need the car to perform a la ZR1. Very interested in results.

Now that's cool. I like the extra bit of style using the V6. This is going to be good.

Yea I put on my RL bucket list to vacation in Europe and rent a car then drive on the ring. With some kind of insurance lol. But to run it in a game sim like million times first as to know the track better when / if that time ever comes.

And how much money is this costing?

There's a point where you spend so much money that it just makes no sense. I could attach million dollar shuttle rockets to a Toyota Camry, but it doesn't make it awesome. Any car can be made fast...for this project to be worth it the cost of doing this needs to be feasible for regular people to transform their V6's.

It's more than just having an affordable and fast V6. This is proving the limits of the LLT and pushing it to dimensions never before reached. It is taking a car that targeted the Corvette and putting a turbocharged V6 in front of it. Stop thinking about the money and realize how amazing a feat of engineering this truly is. Of course it is going to be expensive, but how could it not be worth seeing someone's minimal Camaro LS defeat a Nissan GT-R at the Nurburgring?

For less $$ than the gt-r itself, I'm calling it right now.

unless they triple the cost of the V-6, they won't come close to the cost of a GT-R.

both are great looking cars too, so its a win-win

Top Gear took a Reliant Robin, turned it into a Space Shuttle replica, and launched it. I'm sure it cost a ton of money (British taxpayer money, no less) but boy was it entertaining. Sometimes that's the point. Just being awesome.

That's awesome - my good friend recently "borrowed" a GT-R from his cousin - it's an incredible machine. I've had many V8s in my lifetime, and they are great bang for the buck. However, the saying "there's no replacement for displacement" may not be so accurate anymore. There was an episode of Pinks where a Civic was wasting Chevelles - as with computers, technology will drive "more with less". I think the LLT is going to surprise alot of folks, and perhaps be the next big thing in V6-land (if not already).

This will deffinately effect the way the car is viewed by those who have it and those who are considering it.

Because if no one else will use this setup because of the ridiculous costs then it doesn't mean anything. Like I said, shuttle rockets on a Camry...no one is going to think the Camry is awesome because I can afford to modify the Camry to the point where it's not even a Camry anymore.

Also, no one's going to say a V6 Camaro beat the GT-R...they'll say a V6 that was completely and expensively redone beat a GT-R. They're only supporting the well-known fact that if you put enough money into almost any car, you can make it very fast...

No one said that they're positively going to reproduce the same kit and setup in mass quantities for profit. Even if this ends up being a one-off car, the publicity and enhanced reputation their company would gain all over the internet and magazines might make the long term gains more than worth the $ they put into this one project. Not every project by a tuner is for mass sale and application. Many are undertaken simply to show the technical and mechanical expertise/ knowledge that the company is capable of.
