Nope, that area is very well protected from the elements and also there is a reusable cover for the air filter that prevents fine dust and water from splashes from getting into the system. I've daily driven for about 22,000 with filter in the same location as sts. I've driven through mud and through a hurricane all this summer and no problems. I'll send you a picture of the filter so you can see since I haven't cleaned it yet .

I'll take a pic when I knock off from work but on my setup the filter sits above the turbo so any direct splashing will hit the turbo first and the splash gaurd addon helps too.

Wow, this is an old thread!

That is the wastage for the turbo on the driver side.

I have an STS single set-up on my 2011 V-6. It puts out approx 475 hp. The system was on my car when I purchased it. It only had 6300 miles on it when I bought it in July of 2013. Since then I have replaced the cheap oil return pump supplied with the STS kit with a return pump from Turbowerks. Also added a heat blanket to the turbo so the car does not meltdown. Since then I have not had any problem with the system. Have done a few road trips and now have 10500 miles on it. It pulls really hard and will plant you in the seat if you have it spooled up right. Also have the very cool jet engine sound in the rear of the car when it's spooling up. My system also has a custom 1 piece pipe from the rear to the front. Now leaks or coming apart. My system was installed by Unrestricted Motorsports in Phoenix,Az. They built the car for the SEMA show in 2011.
