No, a J turn is where the car is driving in reverse, makes a sharp turn, then shifts into forward and keeps going in the original direction but pointed the right way around.

Actually, the "J" turn you refer to is done by going in reverse about 30-40 mph, quickly turning the steering wheel, and catching the slide as the front wheels slide around to the front where you are going forward.

J turns are fun. Can be VERY hard to do in some cars and very easy to do in others.

I got to do J turns as a part of the behind-the-wheel segment when learning to drive in high school. That was the best day of the course!

You betcha. In the SS and in a Crown Vic. It was much easier in the SS than in the Vic.

The Vic weighs a lot more doesnt it? also has a wider wheel base too??

Don't know about the wheel base...prolly wider on the Camaro w/ less weight.

no, that was a bootleg turn.
j-turns are like they said earlier, starting in reverse then flipping around and moving forward

For the younger crowd:
The best place to see a good example of a well executed 'J' turn, is re-runs of 'the Rockford Files' and he drives an 'F' body

, a 77 Firebird or older in the pre-77 shows. He made the manuever famous. Probably did not do it in every show...but all the good ones

Pretty cool except his headlights arn't aimed properly. You can tell by the beam on the road! LOL
