Quality Control on 2010 cars
I know you guys have had some problems with the new Camaro but you are not alone. The new 2010 GT500 has had it's share of quality problems as well.
This link will show you one that has been found on several 2010 GT500s. http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-foru...d-problem.html My car had this paint problem as well as a mis matched GT airvent trim ring on the right side, a poorly fitting hood and the car came new with a lot of rust on the underside of the car. Even with these minor problems I love the car but the overall quality is not as good as the 2009 GT500 that I bought a year ago. It was a better built car, not as nice, not as good a performer but better built. Best Regards, Steve

*Waits for all the mustang hater koolaid drinkers.. and Fen to come out of the woodwork*
![]() In all reality, I'm kinda shocked. For a 2000 unit run you'd expect them to at least be able to keep the quality no different than the '09. After all they didn't really change much aside from sheet metal, engine, and a few others. No major body changes, no radical departures.. Camaro I could understand, it was a totally new car. The GT500, though is Ford's quasi-halo car. You don't see C6 vettes with rusty butts and miss-matched trim pieces. Well.. unless it was an IVER. |

All of my problems are minor fit, trim and paint issues. The major amount of rust on the underside of the car is a disappointment to most GT500 owners. I am having all the rusty parts cleaned and painted as a lot of other guys have done on the 2007 thru 2009 models. I love my car and even with these issues would never go back to a 2009 model. Steve

Here are pictures of the underside of my new 2010 GT500 trailered home with 34 miles on it. It looks like a daily driver that has been on the road a couple of years up North.

Dude, that's worse than I imagined. If I could squeeze under my truck and get pics you'd see that I have about the same amount of rust on the Explorer's underside.
2001 105,100mi Not sure what to think.. is my Ford in insane condition, or did Ford drop the effing planet on this one? |

They lied to you. You're driving a 2005 Mustang with a 2010 body on it. It has 120k miles on it and they rolled back the odometer to trick you. It's either that or Ford tried to bronze it for you.

It won't stay that way, as soon as I have time it will go up on the lift and cleaned, treated and painted with epoxy. Some parts will have to be taken off to be done properly. I don't know what the underside of a comparable import would look like these days priced at $50,000 but I think it probably is better than this. Some of these structural parts will deteriorate rapidly if not properly protected, especialy down here in Florida. Steve

..more than meets the eye

Nah, that's been the case with the Mustangs, including GT500's, since the S197 chassis first started production. The only area it is an issue on the car is related to the rear axle assembly. Like Steve said, it's an issue, but easily taken care of by the owner for just a few $$ if they are really that bothered by it.

I need to get it done pretty soon because if I wait I will need to start a "frame off " restoration by spring. ![]() I live in North Florida and what you see now will be 1,000 times worse in about six months. I sent some pictures to Ford Corporate so they could see how bad it was on my car with only 34 miles on it. Steve

Ford: Found on the road dead with inconsistent rusting. Following pics are my truck as of a few weeks ago. 105K miles and that's the only under body rust aside from an overly oxidized rear drive shaft. :/ Those Shelbys have some issues.. Final Shot
This one is from the front towards the rear axle, and a shot of another 2010 in even worse shape than mine also brand new.

Here are some pictures of my 2006 F-150 STX. It has always been parked outside, I have owned it 3 1/2 years and it has 40,000 miles on it. It has been a perfect truck and have never had a single problem with it and I only paid $17,600 for it brand new.
There is no rust under this truck, Ford sure does not build them like they used to. Steve

Here is what a $50,000 car should look like after two or three years.
This is my 2007 Lincoln MKX, 2 1/2 years old not a single warranty problem, a perfect car and oustanding vehicle.I only paid $40,000 for this car. Look at the bottom of this car after 2 1/2 years and 20,000 miles. Lincoln even used stainless steel clamps. I am taking the Shelby in next week and requesting that the car be fixed under warranty. Im not understanding what you expect unpainted raw cast iron and metal to do when its exposed to the elements. Alot of cars come with uncoated suspension and drivetrain components these days.

The only thing that seems to not be painted is the rearend with exception of the cover. Thats not uncommon. The rearend of my 2000 SS is the same way. Yes it sucks and will develop surface rust unless you spraybomb it now before it gets any worse.

At any rate several of the Shelby GT500 owners are getting together to go after Ford on this and get the cars fixed under warranty. It will probably get pretty embarrasing for Ford before it's all over. Steve

Well, good luck with that. What is there to fix under warranty, nothing is broke per say. I think they will tell you guys that if something rusts through before the corrosion warranty is up then they will fix whatever breaks. Dont get me wrong, Id be dissapointed too but not much you can do now other than paint that stuff before it gets bad and be done with it. Ive been hearing the same thing with the challengers cast iron components not being coated with something and showing surface rust. Probably just another way of cutting costs for the manufacturers.

That is just surface rust and I don't care where you live it won't be rusting through any time soon. I understand you want it to look nice and all but it is kind of silly to be so worried about it. Just paint it if you don't like it to look that way, not very difficult.

Holy cow. I have never seen that on a newer car. I noticed some premature corrosion under the new Camaros, but nothing like that! Hope they fix that or return your money.
