However in some of our testing we have actually found that modern snow tires actually outperformed studded tires on an Ice Rink we do our testing on. If you have not driven on a modern snow like a Blizzak on Xice you may be suprised to see how much traction on Ice they can have. Take a look at this test link from our testing.

Very interesting reading. I can see where the tire industry has gone both in tread compound and design. If you evaluate the design of the Bridgestone vs the Firestone, the Firestone is a more open, agressive deep snow tire with less sipeing (5vs7 sipes) per tread block and less tread actually in contact with the road . It looks like the studs made up some of the loss of contact patch and made the times close. They are all great tires studs or not. We knew back in the 60's the more sipe edges in contact the better the traction, hense the sipeing machines we used to improve the traction of both truck and car tires of old. I have actually hand siped with a box cutter a set of Hancooks on my wifes now sold 86 Vette, that were SO bad in the rain the car was a hazard to drive. After adding sipes the car drove and stopped safely in the wet. I am glad there are better products out there now, technology is a great thing. Thanks for sponsoring a great site. Dave PS no matter what your riding on you still have to slow down according to conditions, some people never learn this.

Should I go Scorpian or Blizzak? Money isn't an issue, although Blizzak's price out about $80 less than Scorpian's and $80 is still $80 - roughly a tank of gas, a pizza and a 6 pack.

I am looking to order within the next week or two to get these things in by late October and I don't want them sitting around for the next 5-6 weeks before I put them on.

Thanks!

I got the Scorpions last year, awesome tire couldn't be happier. I had to use them later into spring than I would have liked waiting on my summer rims to come in. They held up good in warmer temps as well.

Both are good tires. I prefer and recommend the Pirellis over the Blizzak because they offer better dry road feel with similar winter performance. Either will be in the snow.

If you order on or before the 30th you will get a $50 rebate. Just an FYI.

Rims?

Hello Rudy,
Getting a 2012 2SS/RS in a month and want to do the Pirellis. I see the rims on your site need centering rings to fit the Camaro bolt pattern. Do you have inexpensive alloy rims which do not require the rings? Do you know what the best rim to fit the new 2012's is? I think the 19" package would be best.
Thanks, Bill

Hi,

Centering rings do not work with the bolts. Its a ring that comes in the center of the wheel. The only purpose the ring serves is to make sure the wheel is not pulled off center when torqing them down. 90% of all aftermarket wheels use a ring system. I have been using one for many years. Its nothing to be concerned about. If you have more questions/concerns please call me at the Tire Rack.

Rudy,

Just wondering what's the availability of the scorpions for this winter, I need the 245 in the front and the 275 for the rear, both 20s. I don't have a winter vehicle and i'm going to be forced to use the camaro :/ I just checed online and they say that I can only get the 245 in a package deal, do I have to order the 275s seperate?

Not sure what winter tires are in 275. My dad had to buy new cheap rims in 20" with 245's all four corners. Car performed fine in the snow.

I ran Pirrelli stock PZero's they got me where I was going but had to stick to main roads that were plowed.

Although some people on here use the stock widths of 245's up front and 275's in back for winter tires, you will get better snow/ice traction using the 245's all around. Skinnier tires equals better snow/ice traction.

Yes you can run 245/45R20 front and rear or you can get the 275/40R20 for the rear. You need to shop the rear by size and not by vehicle. You can also call me directly to order. Please remember if you order online to reference "RUDY/Camaro5" so I can watch over the order for best service.

Not sure if this has already been answered, but does anybody know if the stock 19" camaro wheels will fit on a 2010 SS over the Brembo brakes with the roller skates? The winter tires for these are a lot cheaper than the stock 20" wheels

I do not think they do. I carry some inexpensive 19s that will fit the SS with roller skates. Check Tirerack.com or call me directly and I can help.
