It’s a simple question, instead of a zero weight, what about a 5 weight, that’s all
It’s not about which oil, which is the better oil, Yada Yada, just asking does anyone Use a 5-40 instead of 0-40! Don’t get your panties In a bunch! Crissakes! |

If it’s so simple, do whatever you want. It’s your car and your warranty.

There is a lady who did own, she recently sold the car, a 2017 ZL1 with over 220k miles on it.
She bought it brand new and put all the miles on it herself. Completely stock car. She used what GM recommended and had 0 issues with the car. So.... does that answer your question? Like it was said. It's your cat, do what you want. "Simple" questions on the best oil or best tires or best exhaust, etc are always going to not be so simple. |

I do think once these cars get to the 9-10 year old mark these forums will slightly liven up again due to the issues from aging. Makes me kinda sad. I was always excited to see new topics brought up but haven’t seen many interesting things lately. |

Dumb question, but what is everyone using? Facebook or something else now as a platform, or is it that no one wants a platform anymore? I love forums. Much better than FB or IG or whatever for my needs.

I use Driven Racing DI40 in mine. No issues to date.

I started out with 0W40 in 2020 but soon changed to 5W30 and stayed with that until two weeks ago when Grease Monkey used 0W40 without asking me. I am again reminded that mine uses a lot more 0W40 than 5W30

Amsoil 5W-50 is a great choice if you drive hard. Cold flow like a 0w-40 but you get more resistance to high temp oil sheer.

Oil is an extremely biased question around here.

Everyone has their preference on oil but how many LT4 engine failures have we seen that have been oil related for a stock LT4 in the ZL1? I don't want to see some article showing the difference from a different engine. I want to see it for the LT4.
I'm not talking about the defective oil pump. I'm talking about from the oil itself. A stock car isn't going to have this happen. Once you start modding then you're going outside the stock testing the manufacturer did and that's when you need to have a heavier oil to help with the extra power and heat. How many of us who track the car have issues with the recommended oil? I don't. But GM does recommend a heavier weight oil if you road course in a hot environment. As I mentioned about the 220k mile ZL1 that had 0 issues while using the recommended oil from GM shows that using what GM says will be completely fine for a stock car. |

I see a lot of people use the 6th Gen Facebook group. That being said I think people are just using everything less as there are less and less enthusiasts in general.

OP, I could not paste the picture, but my 2018 track prep guide shows either 0w-40 or 5w-40 for track use. Says 15w-50 for ZL1 1LE only. Might depend on the year, but think the high performance supplement maybe says the same thing? fwiw
