Took my to the shop yesterday for the same problem. I hope it is something simple. Plus the vert top leaked into the back passanger side floor board.

So the dealer replace some parts in the rear end 3 weeks ago. Now I had to bring it back in for noise during low speed turns. They put some slick 50 stuff in the rear end or what ever the offical part is. That did not work now they say they are replacing some cluches in the rear end. Never heard of clutches in the rear end? Any advice?

The clutch packs, probably where the noise is coming from. Did they follow the procedure in the tsb? If they did they should have put about 50 miles on the car. They have done the tsb on mine twice. It has been quiet since. If the noise is slow turns it is cleaning out excess lashing compound in the clutch packs. If it is a noise on deceleration it is your backlash. That requires replacing the ring and pinion.

Of course they did not follow the TSB and were not very happy when I called them out on it. They fixed the decel problem 500 miles ago. They said they did it the right way today and still have the noise. Now clutches.

They will replace the clutch packs but you will probably get the noise back. The good thing it is mostly noise and I think little effect. It is a bombproof rearend. Maybe find a better dealer. I have a great relationship with mine and they always listen. They realize a lot of good information is passed on this site.

No, but if they inspect it they will see if the backlash is off.

I wouldn't trust the average dealer mechanic to correctly set up a ring and pinion gear. Even with an experienced installer it's a trial and error process that usually takes a few install/removals to get it done correctly. I was fortunate enough that all the noise and slow speed groans went away when I changed the rear end fluid.
