Also, it is obvious this new Camaro is much larger than it's '69 counterpart. I am just wondering why they couldn't have designed the car to be about 10% smaller in every way, but keep current drivetrain? If the vehicle shrunk about 10% I don't think anyone would really notice and in fact it would likely still be larger than the 1st gen Camaro, but a 10% reduction in weight would put it at about 3500 lbs which seems much better. Just for reference I put the current specs down below:

Wheelbase (in/mm): 112.3 / 2852
Overall length (in/mm): 190.4 / 4836
Overall Width: 75.5 / 1918
Overall height: 54.2 / 1377
Track (front) (in/mm): 63.7 / 1618
Track (rear) (in/mm): 64.1 / 1628 (LS, LT)
63.7 / 1618 (SS)
Curb weight (lb/kg): 3750 / 1705 - LT automatic
3741 / 1700 - LT manual
3769 / 1713 - LS automatic
3780 / 1718 - LS manual
3913 / 1779 - SS automatic
3860 / 1755 - SS manual
Weight balance: 52% front / 48% rear
Was the 69 camaro 10% smaller? NO

Here's the 69 Z/28 Camaro Spec's:
Wheel base 108 (3.8% smaller)
Length 186 (2.3% shorter)
Width 72.5 (3.9% narrower)
Height 51.4 (5.1% shorter)
Weight 3,525 lbs. (6% lighter)
Ref:69Camaro

The facts don't bear out your perception.

Those are already available.....Hot Wheels makes them I believe.
That runs? Really though, the Camaro is fine the way it is...if it's big then it's big for a reason.

I wish it was a little shorter, a little narrower, and not as tall.
As for weight, aside from the Corvette, which they've done a great job with weight, i wonder if this is a GM problem. Looking at a motor trend test a few months ago of the Malibu vs. the Accord, Camry and Altima, all the cars have practically identical height, weight and width. The Malibu though is the heaviest . It's a full 300 pounds heavier than the Altima.

I am not too worried about the car's weight/dimensions, I think it is just about right. I would much much rather have a safe/pretty fast car than a very fast but not-so-safe car. Also I hope the parts are very reliable, and that usually means heavy (considering we are not talking carbon fiber here hehe). Size-wise I hope it is not too big, and it seems it won't be (for me at least, though I hope it will be able to share the 2-car garage with a suv! If not the suv is getting demoted to driveway lol)

I agree with the first two (as long as they keep the wheelbase the same), but being on the tall side I don't want to kill myself getting in lol, or if you mean lowering the ride heigh I don't want to scrape my Camaro pulling out of the driveway!

It could be about the same size as the smart car and then get blown into a side rail when a big rig passes

The Camaro that is 98% smaller is produced by micro machines fyi lol

I think my favorite part about people worrying about it at this point is this: What... Is GM gonna tear up the blue prints and start with another clean sheet of paper and re-design the whole thing AGAIN?!!!!! I for one am glad that the wait is over. I'll take a 3800 pound SS and move out smartly.

Even if you want to spend the day complaining as so many have done, know that they're done designing it. They're probably at the end of testing it. At this point you might want to get over it and either buy one or move out smartly. As stated above, I'm planning to buy one and...... move out smartly.

Is that stock, if it is it won't. Not by the numbers, and certainly not even close in a road course, of course only if your '99 is stock. But we will have to wait and see when these cars are on the street then and only then will we know for sure.

This guy gets it. It isn't just about the safety and equipment additions. We all know that is an issue. What the OP is thinking of is an overall smaller package. It would be a compromise on interior volume, but since other people think giving up a radio or AC would be a good compromise, why isn't this at least as valid? Yes the great big engine bay is wonderful for giving full access, but a smaller bay could have dropped size and weight a bit. Not as tall, well I think we've touched on all the height issues, and I don't think that is realistic. Shorter in length, well we hear it has a ton of legroom for a performance coupe. What if they cut into that a bit? Width? Same thing. Obviously it would be a compromise - less interior room and comfort, but even more nimble, quick, and efficient. Some people love all the extra space and I'm happy for them, but some others wouldn't mind sacrificing that a little. Its all about priorities and in this context one doesn't outweigh the other.

The above quote also makes a good point that square inch for square inch, GM cars tend to be heavier than other cars with similar safety ratings. GM cars are simply more dense. Say what you want about safety and room, but quite often the other guys can do less weight with the same space and safety results.
