put that ls3 in front of the auto or a professional driver and it will kick that l99 all day. LS3 is primitive? It works. The l99s afm is a failed technology. only works on paper. No one converts there LS3 to a l99. VVT is great though

Looking that the OPs avatar it looks like he has NPP exhaust which only an option for the M6 SSs or the 1LE package. Either way it would be an LS3.....

Come on Page 3!

That is correct Benning! I have the Performance Exhaust system on her. I just love the way she percolates!

Okay, this is a fair question as well. Two stock 2SS Camaros, LS3 and L99, which one wins 1/4 mile drag race, both drivers equally qualified.....?

the auto can shift quicker so if you put a better driver in the ls3 ( the one who can shift) he probably will still get beat because the auto does most of the work and can do it better than a person can. these 6 speed autos are amazing. I bought the stick because i dont race and I wanted a muscle car with a stick for nostalgia reasons.

If you convert the L99 to an LS3, you probably will need to change the gears in the rear end.

(Only two posts to go)

why would you need to put gears in if you convert to ls3?

Not again... BTW, I've never heard of anybody doing an LS3---->L99 conversion.

Yeah, the LS3 is different, but it's not that different. It doesn't take a whole lot to do an "LS3 conversion" on an L99.
It would take a lot if they did a "full" LS3 conversion. They just change the cam, lifters, timing chain, gears, swap the LOMA out. Some of them may swap the oil pump and valve springs. Hardy anybody swaps the valves out. The pistons are what gives the L99 a lower compression ratio and nobody swaps the pistons out.

Wow, I thought I would get this thread to p. 4 on just the question of L99 vs LS3 in a race.

Okay, shooting for page 4., what kind of oil do you recommend, same for each or is one oil better for each?
