Thanks for the duct ideas guys. Mine is a little different because the hoses start where the fog lights used to be. Complicates things a bit...

Don't worry about where it starts; it is where it ends that causes the problem

I too am going to run additional brake ducts from the lower fogs on my ZL1. X25 you're using the Quantum - Competition Brake Cooling Kit right? That's 3" diameter hose right? Also for the brake duct attachments, do you have to take the calipers off to install them?

It's been a long time, but I think I had to remove the rotors for access, which means calipers were removed, too. Yeah, it's pretty large ducting; should be 3". The only time I ever care for my ducting is when I'm about to remove the bumper; very happy with the setup and its long life.

In case it's useful: I used the Quantum kit on my 2011 SS with 3" hose. Calipers had to come off.

Here's my original install with pics from January 2014. My pics start at post #109 and end on the following page around post 130. We improved the routing since then...

Spent yesterday at FATT (Friday At The Track), Summit Point Main. Boy is that place going downhill. The main bridge in to the paddock failed inspection, meaning that if you show up with a trailer you have to arrive before the track goes hot or after it goes cold at end of day, because you have to drive over the track to get there. Kinda weird. Anyhow, rumor has it the place is up for sale now that Dominion Raceway is opening up soon in Fredericksburg.

I have only been to one FATT before and that was years ago, and since then they have gotten super strict on signing off folks to do solo. You have to ride with two of their instructors and both of them have to give you 5/5 on everything in order for them to sign you off solo. So, I spent my day with instructors in the right seat. Both had good ideas and good suggestions, so I learned a lot about the uniqueness of SP Main.

Here's a few laps.

Pete

video is great. Did you look at your oil pressure? It wasn't really low, but many times it dipped into the high 30's when you were off the throttle at over 4k rpms and only rose to 53-55psi above 6K rpm. Just an observation and I certainly don't think you have a worry. Is your real time telemetry accurate?

The pressure is where it should be with a Dailey 5 stage dry sump with an air oil seprator and a four gallon oil tank towards the end of a run session. We flow an enormous volume of 0/30 racing oil. The oil pressure is hardwired into the OBDII bus. You probably also noticed that the water temps stay low. That is related to the volume of oil flowing through the motor.

Bill Dailey for the win... I'm amazed at the volume of fluid these pumps flow. While part of it is the new radiator we are also seeing pretty awesome temps. In a hot dyno bay with and without fans, during pulls and just driving on the dyno we have never seen over 183 degrees. My tank isn't as big as Petes but I still have 13 quarts of oil circulating.

yes...I knew there had to be a logical explanation...thanks. What great oiling from such a system...

Thanks for the comments guys. It is indeed a blast to drive, but I think my tires have been heat cycled out (11 track days plus whatever damage Pete did at HolleyFest) even though they have tread left. They sure are howling in the corners.

The car is really tight, and the engine rocks. Temps stay low, power is awesome. You might have noticed a few sessions where I'm approaching a corner at SP Main in 3rd with RPMs up near 7k and I end up just holding it there for 4-5 seconds till I hit the corner. If I was really pushing it I would be upshifting to 4th and then braking harder in the corner, but with the instructors in the right seat I was advised to not drive as hard as I can, in order to get signed off. But seeing the tach up there is kinda cool and knowing it's perfectly fine keeping it there.

Next up is VIR Oct 25/26 - my home track. Going to try it with fresh 325 Re11s all around (even though X25 is rolling his eyes and snorting in derision as he reads this). Will be wringing every ounce out of the car

Pete

PS the quote of the day was from my first instructor of the day (I know him, great guy) after we return back in: "Next time, Pete, you probably want to save the burnout until you are at least 10 feet past the track worker signaling you out of the pits and onto the course". Hehe. Oops.

Is this the car Pete B has been posting about on FB for the last year or so?

If so, well done, and congratulations!

[edit] started at the beginning, I see it is.... back to reading 600+ posts
