Got another vvt conversion part today. Now i just need an L99 oil pump and the normal cam parts list.

I'm gonna order fly cutting stuff next. I'm planning on cutting .1" ahead of time and hoping I get the ptv clearance I need without having to do it again when I install the cam. How deep are the stock L99 reliefs?

I think the SST4, or whatever he calls it, requires cutting even on the L99 pistons.

I believe 1cc on each valve.

Because iirc the pistons together are -2 cc's. I'm gonna ask AES see if they know anything about them or have any stock junk laying around.

Speaking of.....check out this video of our local racer Bob Curran winning in Indy. He made a record run on an AES built motor and I've hung around him at Byron Raceway on occasion.

Yeah. I think the L99 pistons are cut on both sides, but for the same valve. My cuts will both be on the same side.

Oh yea! I believe fly cutting will give you better PTV clearances. It's going to be fine so don't worry, you'll also want to deburr the sharp edges of the fly cuts, rough edges can cause hot spots and hotspots lead to preignition and knock. I did it to my pistons.

They'll look perfect I promise. I have my eyes on the lindey tool. What did you use to cut with? I'm thinking a little oil in the valve guide and an air ratchet.

I know the ss3, mine, did not require fly cutting on L99. The ss4 requires fly cutting even on the L99.

I thought I saw him say that somewhere.

.1" is the max I should go on the stock pistons right? I'm kinda trying to cut as deep as is safe, then fill it with as much cam as will fit.
