Thats what I wanna know. There are a ton of the little 5.4L's out there running well north of the 800 mark on the stock bottom end and still running strong after years of abuse. Im at 700/700 and beat the hell out of mine and its a daily driver............

The 5.8 is completly diff animal. How do you own one and not know this?
The cylinder walls are thinner, by a lot. Several older 5.4 based cars will end up going real fast.. the 5.8 is blowing up when pushed.. look around.. |

I know my way around the 5.8L and 5.4L and ALL the differences between the 2. You should know that the cyl wall thickness is no where near the weak link in the 5.8L. The block can handle ALOT of HP and TQ. So far I know of 2 that have blown up and one was because it was blown up on purpose. The other was because of stupidity from adding a crap load of timing on pump gas. Both were not a block failure.

The internals of the aluminum 5.4 vs. the aluminum 5.8 are the exact same in strength. The stock blocks have been tested and proven in setups passed 2000hp. The plasma lining technology in both blocks make them quite suitable to punishment. The ONLY weak link is the crack forged I beam rods, which tend to give away around 850rwhp. The 5.8 is not blowing up at all, it has the same ceiling as the 5.4, it is in the same engine family, parts are interchangeable. The only 5.8 that has blown up thats been in the public's eye is Evolution Performances. That car was running 23+ psi on a KB 3.6L and had over 350+ track passes on it and countless dyno sessions. The friggin car was making well over 850rwhp when it popped. |

again, this isn't dissing the ZL1, but lets be realistic here, the ZL1 needs internal modification and a head swap to run with a modded (not internally) GT500. |

low 10s @ high 130s/low 140s 1.57 60'
Still has a little more left in it on shell urt-a as well as actually using the two step to launch with. I wasn't looking to throw down a challenge etc, I was mainly just saying the 5.4/5.8 GT500 can take a ton of abuse. There are plenty of GT500's out there that are complete street cars like my own, running better times as well. |
