That was my plan, pretty much.
But, what I really want to know is, does the crossmember 'relax' at all when it's cut and need to have any tension put back in to it with the flanges? Thanks, -KP |

Thanks! I wonder if the flanges could be threaded and just use bolts? And Loctite. |

That would be pretty hard to do because you would have to get the flanges just prefect. The bolt and nut method leaves a little wiggle room for error.

7/16 NC grade 8 1-1/2" long with Nylocks.

You could go up 1 number/fraction of drill on the non tapped side, which would also give some “wiggle room “.
