I like the interior style, I just wish the plastic panels would not scuff so easily

hmm, it's kind of hard to explain, but I'll give it a try. after having driven Japaneses cars for the last 15 years, I guess I just noticed the little things. first of all, it's not just that they use plastic inside. it's more that it's a cheap, hard, shinny plastic. cars I bought in the past have used much nicer, more supple plastics. almost like a really firm rubber. not something you have to worry about cracking, and not something that you can see a reflection in. and in addition to that, its everywhere. most cars I've had in the past will put cloth or other non plastic materials on different parts of the interior. never seen so much plastic inside a car before. the center stack, entire dash, armrest/storage, doors........everything, even the (cheapest looking I've ever seen) sun visors. and again it's cheap.
now as for the rest of it, it's not that bad. I like the lighting for the gauges, and their placement and design is fairly nice, and I like the seats. very comfortable, nice fabrics. the carpet seems pretty nice also. and the overall "feel" of most of the buttons and knobs is pretty good. now the rest of my gripes with the interior is more along gthe lines of what's missing. I guess in a way you could call that cheapness on GM's part. also, the placement of some of the controls is a little weird. like the trunk release on the door, or the controls for the lights practically under the steering wheel.

but all in all, it's not bad. I totally get that these cars aren't about creature comforts, and I did buy an LS. but as someone else said, if I'd spent 40k on the 2SS I'd be highly disappointed in quality of the interior, if it really is the same.

I love the old school feel of the interior. It's a throwback to the old days.

I'm sort of happy about all the plastic. Sure it scuffs and scratches easy...just try and not run into it so much. Besides if GM covered everything in vinyl or leather it would all be falling off in the first year. Just look at the new dashes. My car has 1480 miles on it and already a bubble in the dash dead center over the radio. Remember C5 Corvette door panels? GM did right by sticking with plastic. I'd rather scuffed panels over material that's falling off because they don't know how to attach it right.

But hey, it's no worse than my 2005 Silverado was. Now THAT is a lot of plastic.

so we should just settle for ton of cheap plastic so GM doesn't have to use better quality materials and improve the build quality some?

Im sure Scott will chime in a thread like this... I think he did before when something of this manner was mentioned. IMHO, some people have some really high standards. Oh well, whatcha gonna do?

It's ok to complain about the interior, I suppose...but its something I'm sure they put some thought into as far as quality and longevity...after all, its the thing we deal with the most when we drive the car!...
Just sayin' when you're out kicking tires and looking at different makes, its not too hard to take a look at the "quality" of the interior, and decide if its a deal killer or not.
I couldn't care less what other makes have, or what they do with the interiors to Camaros in the future...I bought this car.

Sure, because I'm pretty confident they aren't going to do better

BTW, this is by far the nicest vehicle I ever owned. My first two rides (a 93 Chevy C1500 and a 98 S10) didn't have power anything. All manual stuff, carpet floors, and boat loads of cheap easy to break plastic EVERYWHERE. My 2005 Silverado was the same song and dance but it atleast had power windows and locks. Now that I've graduated to the Camaro I don't have much to complain about. It's typical late model GM fair and I apparently haven't owned all these super nice cars other folks have had to compare with.

Maybe I'm wrong but doesn't the RS come with leather? Or is that the 2LT and 2SS?

2SS is leather "package"
1SS is cloth interior

Not sure about the LT...but pretty sure RS has nothing to do with any interior features...

Too much hard plastic on door panels, console, etc. This stuff is going to be loaded with scratches in a few years. Even if it was covered with vinyl, that would be a big improvement.

All of the trim is just grey plastic. It should be chrome, stainless or aluminum. Even chrome plated plastic would be a big improvement. Even the Cruze I had as a loaner had more chrome trim on the interior.

Cheap sun visors, again the Cruze has better ones.

Also I wish the guages were on the dash instead of the console. This would allow better viewing of them, and allow for the gear shift and cupholders to be moved forward so the armrest and storage compartment could be bigger. My sunglasses case, garage door opener, and microfiber cloth are in there and the thing is full. No room for a couple CD's, mini dash duster, etc. that I used to keep in my other car. Glove box is big, but not as easily accessible. And I can have only a little more than my elbow on the armrest. I'm used to it extending further.
The 4-pack gauge cluster location is a design element from the 1st Gen Camaros. There's actually a lot of design elements reminiscent of the 1st Gens.

Personally, I love the interior. Especially the lit up stripe in the door at night. Mine is a 2LT with the leather trim....

The gauges on the console is inspired by the same setup on '69s.....fine with me also.

I just plain love my Camaro Convertible!!!
