This didn't last long but I was excited while it lasted. Getting 240 on a full tank and averaging 15-16mpg now

Almost 11K mileage...2013 ZL1 A6, getting about 14.5 MPG using 91 octane (93 is scarce here) in the City. 22MPG on the highway...

The one guy that said "you have to pay to play" I understand. Also when you buy a car that has a $2600.00 gas guzzler tax (obviously auto), that's as big a red flag as anyone should need. But, when you have a thread like this one and there are such exteme differences I feel like the one guy said "something must be wrong".
I am in Reno, NV. 4000 to 4500ft elevation. Car at 800 miles, strickly adhearing to 1500 break in guideline. My DIC say's avg MPH... 27.5! CAI installed... first three tanks, mid 10mpg, fourth tank 14mpg, last two mid 11mpg.
While researching this forum while waiting on my car to arrive I read all these 93 octane post and I become obsessed with the fact that I need 93 octane. Well, there is only one station in Reno that sells 93 and 100 octane... $7 to $8 a gallon for 93 and $10 to $11 for 100!
So I research Torco additive. Factor the ammount needed to achieve 93 octane . Almost an entire can... 28oz, can is 32.
When I take my car to the shop to do the several mod's planned, I mention this to the owner. They personally own two completely modified SS's, have built two ZL1's to over 700rwhp... all at 91 octane! He said on the dyno they are getting plenty of fuel??? It's obviously the altitude.
But still, how can some of you have modded 700hp cars (and I'm sure your DIC doesn't read 27.5mph, be getting the kind of mileage you are getting?
Something is wrong!
My car is currently at the dealership having the entire rear end replaced (at 800 miles... see previous post) and checking out other problems that they can't find, so I guess I will address this issue whith them at my next visit.

You only have 800 miles on it. It's a damn near 600 HP motor, and you're worrying about gas mileage. Huh.

If it makes you feel better, I mostly drive to work through hilly twisty roads (back country roads), and I too am breaking it in still. I average between 12 to 13 MPG. This is a 35 mile one way commute. This is calculated by ME not the pcm. The pcm is a liar.

I took the highway (mostly... mixed actuslly) this week and the pcm tells me I'm averaging 14.7 mpg. I'll see when I calculate it when I finish this tank.

Point is, HOW you drive it is as important as WHERE you drive it. And let it break in before you panic about mileage.

OH if it helps, Mt Charger SRT8 averaged about 15 - 17 MPG on that same mixed commute. So... not that far off, given the difference.

LOL.... Mine is soon to be 600+ RWHP... F*CK MPG.....

Since I've had it now for a month and after a few fill ups and mixed driving. I'm averaging 15 MPG. When if was all HWY I was in the lower to mid 20s.

I'm happy with it. I was just worried when I first picked it up, it said 8 MPG average which didn't sound right. I also felt like the car was sluggish so thought something was wrong. After fuse pull and 93, car felt stronger and mpg was up. I drove a 1200 HP SRT8 Jeep and got better gas mileage. haha

I'm averaging around 14.5 in my manual shift and that's mixed city and highway, also I'm driving it like I stole it 80 percent of the time.
I'm happy!

[QUOTE=Camero5;7708834]I just picked up a 2013 ZL1 used and I was curious what's the average city/hwy MPG everyone is getting. This car is stock and averaging 10MPG so far in the city. Doesn't sound right to me even for a 580 HP car. Hoping it just needs to see some HWY speeds to increase the average MPG on the odo. I have reset it btw. Highest I get is 11MPG. Haven't had a chance to do a fuse pull or refill with 93 octane.

Thanks

Just reading this for kicks. Yall who get 17 mpg in city driving are either lying, or should have bought a V6 cuz you're not having real fun with your ZL1.
