BTW! Did you know that Ford stole the King of The Road (KR) badging from Chevy back in the late 60s... just a little trivia I heard on HOTROD and Horsepower TV shows!
If i'm not mistaken, the KR is already 80K and the Super Snake is over 100K. Yes, 100K for a Mustang.... albeit one that'll be probably increase in value over the years due to its' rarity.

Ford has the advantage of not stepping on any toes with the Mustang. They don't really have a Corvette. We all know the Camaro will never usurp the Corvette performance wise unless it was a very limited production run.

We're seeing some terrific performance bargains w/the new pony car wars!

This is quoted for truth. GM will never make a Camaro out perform the Vette. Why in the heck would you buy a 60~70k performance car when you can get it for 40k or less ? For ford, the GT500 is just a upgraded platform. They could care less if a GT is faster than a GT500 later.

Actually the KR was made but way overpriced..why ford did it is beyond me. The Gt500 is basically a KR btw..engine, suspension, ect...

The Supersnake is a GT500 and for 25k they will make your GT500 a supersnake package. Its actually cheaper and FASTER than a KR ! A Supersnake package will put you at 750+ hp or so. So get a used gt500 for like 35~38k add 25k and BAM! you get a supersnake ! Upgraded engine, handling, badges, ect ect. Its not a bad package.

I think you guys are looking at this the wrong way.

The Corvette > GT500

The Z06 Corvette >> GT500

The ZR1 Corvette >>> GT500

My point?

GM can make a car that doesnt out perform the Vette while still ensuring it outperforms all its competition. Just because, say a Z28 can run with a GT500, doesnt mean its in Vette territory.

It's not like that car will cost will cost the same as the base mustang's V6, and with its numbers in current applications, I'm not convinced the ecoboost engine will be beating the SS

it will give the stang more power, but wont they also have to add some safty stuff? like supports for the new roof cave in test and things that the camaro already has? i think i will add more weight, and more power.

i wonder if this will have the "Feature" of a higher up placed motor like the 2010GTs and V6 stangs

Well technically the Stang's are good until 2012 (or 2011?) when the safety regs are updated.

They just recently got 5 stars across the board in crash test ratings for the 2010's

That being said im not sold on their ''glass roof'' being as safe as a regular coupe.

How quickly this turned into a mustang thread...

Back on topic please.

Pros and cons of each. Not a special edition Mustang thread.

Great thread by the way!

None.

And even if it is true, the Mustangs are going to be devishly disappointed when

A) It's near the top end of the power it can make (not much room to grow)
B) It must have 93 Octane.
C) It gets heavier and much more expensive.

Someone find a source other than LLN, we've already concluded those guys spin stories.

i could almost swear the 5.0 engine did something to you or a direct family member... are you ok? :(

Great for the Mustang getting an upgrade. It will gain weight, its coming only a matter of time. There is plenty of places to look up the new regs online. The roof and side structures all have to be reinforced, and side curtain air bags added. Also someone was asking about the 6speed in the Mustang, that is a given as well. Ford is upgrading all there trannies to 6speeds. I know I saw it quoted somewhere, but dont know where. With the engine, brake, tranny upgrades and the regulation complicance it will gain more than 50lbs. It will gain weight, how much is the question.

I'm not saying that the Coyote is DI, but if we could wave a magic wand and insert 2 more cylinders into the Camaro's V6 we would have a 4.8L V8 with a bit more than 400 HP that burns regular and has lots of room to grow.

I don't see why Ford's engineers can't do the same thing, in fact I think they have a DI version of the D35 (their new 3.5L DOHC V6) that makes around 300hp.

I can't tell you what it would cost, but it can't be too bad considering the price of the LS & LT. And Ford will be able to the development cost over a whole mess of Mustangs and F150s. If the price, durability and fuel economy numbers work they might even sell a few to other manufacturers.
