Thomas, as a fellow A6 guy heading to VIR this summer I really appreciate the effort undertaken in this writeup.

I have a '14 1SS and have added the factory 4-pack gauges. I also just finished installing the ADM trans cooler this weekend. My question is, do you see any correlation between the trans temps shown on the factory gauge and "actual" trans temps (i.e. those you are reading from the OBDII port)? In street driving mine is running a couple needles-widths below 180 (85 degree ambient temps), but you're showing ~132. Do you think the factor gauge is 50 degrees off? Or do you think your added cooling fan is making that much of a difference?

Thanks for the input in advance,

Chris

I have not verified the factory gauge to the "actual" OBDII reported temps. What I do use is a remote sensor at the outlet of the coolers, that is what I am reading.

Spent the day Friday at Putnam Park. 4 20 min sessions. 82* out. Car ran very well and per the DIC oil temps did not exceed 266* water temp was 203* tops. Every run included blasts to 120mph on the front stretch and an average of over 78mph for an entire lap. Was worried the temps would be higher but never saw any increase. Only thing that was hot was the brakes and the tires. We'll see what this next weekend brings at NCM.

DIC stops showing after 266, and is only accurate if your engine is bone stock (since it's calculated).

A MUST READ for Oil Temps for Tracking

My oil temp read out on the DIC in the performance menu has read 290. The bar graph doesn't go above 270.

My DIC never showed above 266, but I was able to read temps as high as 290 when I read from OBDII port. I also have a '14 1LE.

In the end, I installed an aftermarket oil sensor and gauge, and I can finally read real temps all the time.

Running a stock 5th Gen without an oil cooler will push the oil temps on a warm day, 80 degrees of higher into the 280 to 300 degree range depending on the track, the length of time you spend close to red line.

I have a 14 1LE as well but it's only a 1SS. I too have a stand alone oil temp gauge and I found it to read 10 degrees lower at the out port of oil going to the cooler than the factory gauge.

What block did you use to plumb the cooler?
Line size?
Cooler?

The improved racing and I mounted it right side up like X25 ended up doing. I ran my first track day with it and didn't see temps above 270. I'm using an earls 16 row cooler.
