If the ZL1 gets night vision I'd pay an extra 4K.

If the new GT350R starts at $63k, the new ZL1 will probably be close.

Question is, will dealers charge a market adjustment. At my local ford dealer the GT350R had a $100k markup. I had to look twice and ask a sales person just to make sure I wasn't completely crazy. They told me the highest bid so far was $60k over msrp but hey were holding out.

Answer is - YES, most if not all will. Just look at the history of every new vehicle, including the 2012 ZL1.

ANYone fortunate enough to buy one when they first come out at MSRP will be a very lucky buyer.

I'd really love to see adaptive cruise control and lane tracking in all 2SS/2LT varieties.

I talked to a dealer last weekend. He said that ZL1's on the lot will probably be marked up. But one's that are ordered will go for MSRP. We were talking about ZL1s and 1LEs. He said even the C5 ZL1s tend to overpower the car, and that a 1LE was more workable and fun. Whether this is true or not, is a matter of opinion. But I was surprised that he would discourage me from a more expensive car. It gave him credibility.

I wonder how a 2015 ZL1 will hold its trade in value against the new Z.

The Gen 5 ZL1's are not holding their value as is, might even drop faster when the Gen 6 comes out.

When I ordered my 2012 ZL1 most dealers were adding $5000 to $10,000 over MSRP. I found three dealers that would not sell above MSRP. Rodgers Chevrolet, Michigan, Classic Chevrolet, Texas and Stingray Chevrolet, Florida. There might be others but these three have a policy of not selling anything above MSRP. There were NO discounts on ZL1's for employees, military or suppliers for almost a year after the first cars were built. Orders started in Nov. 2011 and production started in Jan. 2012.

I'm on the list at classic and my sales rep has assured me just what you have said. No markup, sold at msrp. Shall see....

Agreed. At that point, you might as well step up, spend a bit more on a Z06. Or, bite the bullet and spend $70k on the Zl1. To me, once you hit that $70k mark, you might as well start looking at cars that are pushing $90-$100k. YOLO.

Yeah I was looking for a used one before i bought mine and was disappointed I couldn't find a much better deal than new. 0% financing and <20 miles on the odometer won out over $6k and 20k miles on the odometer. They may have dropped significantly since then.

There is a point where people just flat have money and the price point becomes less important to buyers. Back when the C6Z was sitting at over 200 days worth of cars on the ground an article I read about the Z said that happens at about 100k in the auto market, there is no strict cutoff obviously. The idea being the Z was hitting at 100k for a well optioned model and lots of people who have 100 have 125. At that point the ZR1 became the go to choice for those buyers.

I didn't fact check that one but the concept is sound. This in mind I'm not sure that at 70k most people have reached that point where you go ahead and spend 100?

Regardless there is compelling competition at the 70 range and a pool of buyers who will move to it if the pricing makes the ZL1 a cost competitor even though those cars will all be beaten about the head and shoulders by a ZL1 in the various performance metrics. Not sure how big that pool is but I do know it's there.
