I'll agree imo the GT5 led the way for a few years in a row as far as hp and straight line performance. Kinda why I never understand how the HC gets all the hp credit GT5 had been doing it lol

Marketing. "707 HP". If one car had 699 hp and the Hellcat showed up with 701 then guess which one will get more press. LOL! And not because one has 2 more HP than the other. But because it is over 700 while the other is not. See? Dodge was smart and played their cards right. GM had already produced a 631 hp ZR1. Then Ford showed them up with a 663 hp GT500. Then for 2015 the Z06 would have 650. So what did Dodge do? They slapped everyone with 707 horsies and made GM and Ford look like they were just effing around. |

Sadlt, an effective auto in last gens GT500 would’ve put its quarter mile times right next to the HellCats as well. Power/Weight is in the Shelbys advantage, just not able to match the 8sp.
Not to mention that clutch protection keeping us from smoking our clutches in a single evening of abuse. I’d still buy the manual regardless. Not everything is about 3 or 4 tenths at te drag strip.

It's about more than just 1/4 mile times or road course...it's about enjoying what you drive, enjoying the open road, and making new friends too.

So you can't do the math? wow
Either way, the 13-14 GT500 was more than a "1 trick pony" compared to the fif gen ZL1. (pun intended) Both are cool cars in my books.

Well the ZL1 was definitely more well rounded. It had more tech (IRS, MRC) as well as heated seats and other goodies...like an option for an auto trans, lol!! The GT500 wasn't a 1-trick pony at all. But it was nowhere near as well rounded and refined as the ZL1 was.

Not to mention if a ZL1 or GT5 show up now with 699 hp not sure that 707 would matter.

https://nurburgringlaptimes.com/lap-times-top-100/ Top 100 times on the Ring....find the GT500 while you're there... And if we're talking unofficial crap... the ZL1 1LE actually ran a 7:13 on the Ring....but it wasn't an officially timed run...
