ZL1 Wheel Cleaning
I have been meaning to post this for a few people who have PM'd me about how I clean my wheels, what products and techniques I use... here it goes and I'm sorry for the delay.....
The tools. The Products. I dilute Adams Deep Wheel Cleaner 1:1 with distiled water and have seen no reduction in cleaning power. I use the Green Wheel Cleaner undiluted. Adams APC is fantastic at attacking the grime in the wheel wells and I do wheel well cleaning while the Deep Wheel Cleaner is dwelling on my filthy wheels. Some would argue that a dedicated wheel soap is overkill but as I am OCD and don't mind being labled a product whore I chose AMMO Brute Wheel Soap. I put about a ounce or two on my Adams wash pad and fill my DEDICATED Wheel bucket with grit guard up with enough water to cover my brushes with the soapy solution. Pre soaking all your brushes will soften them up so they will not scratch your wheels I just ready my bucket first then set up the rest of my supplies. The wheels driven less than 200 miles of mild driving. After a track day they are considerably worse. Deep wheel cleaner sprayed on dry COLD wheels. I use a liberal amount of product outside and inside the barrels as well. Adams has a foaming sprayer that works well. I let it dwell while I clean my wheel wells. I use my soapy Lug brush to agitate the product I spend alot of time on this and it does a great job of dislodging the brake dust and caked on junk! Wheel woolies for the barrels. The big woolie first and it will get behing the caliper. The medium woolie I use after and I give it a good Blast of Green Wheel Cleaner to make barrel prestine.. You can still see the Deep Wheel Cleaner working after agitating and all the gunk collecting. I then clean the face of the wheel With Adams Blond Boars Hair brush. This thing is soft and does a great job of releasing the dirt and product without maring the finish. I just use the soapy water and rinse this a few times while cleaning the face of the wheel. Deep wheel cleaner still working after face cleaning ! Cleaning behind the spokes. I use an older Adams wash pad that no longer is fit for cleaning the lower painted panels of my car. I like the large pads and hold the corners with each hand and work it back and forth to clean behind the spokes after each side of the pad is dirty I rinse it in the bucket and rub it against the grit guard to remove anything that may have gotten inbeded in the fibers. One more light once over with another lug brush and some soapy water. Rinse..... RINSE and RINSE THOROUGHLY then rinse again . Get all the product and Gunk out. Take the nozzle into the rim and spray water around to insure all ramaining product is fulshed out.Ready for the Road, I dry them after I wash my entire car and touch them up with a micro fiber towel with some Detail spray just to give them a little more pop. Cheers and thanks for looking. If you have any questions let me know.

i love the adams cleaning products. never thought to dilute the deep wheel cleaner with distilled water. its a good idea that i will try since i go through the product pretty quickly. The Wheel Woolies are worth their weight in gold....
+1 for adams products!

I switched to simple green biodegradable cleaner after seeing what Scott, the "Fbodfather", posted on a similar post earlier. I buy the big container from the big box stores whenever possible and when it's on sale.

Can't remember the product name... but as OCD as you are you want to get some... it eats the light rust off the rotors as you clean your wheels.

The Adam's stuff works great! The only thing I don't like is once I get all the dirt & grime off I can see just how crappy my black 10-spokes are painted.

Great write up! I use a very similar method. I didn't know the DWC could be diluted. I'll be trying that this weekend. Cleaning these rims is definitely time consuming.
